Nope, he turns 20 this year.
Uh no he doesn’t.

Developing better than Hunter...
yup
Think he will be best at 10k/roads long term but Nicos engine is immense. Another good result, and expect an eye-popping 10k if he gets in the right race.
But really, his mate Abdi looked best out of NAU boys. He's going to run sub 13:20 this year.
What happened to those posters that claimed Nico trained so intensely in HS that he had already achieved his lifetime peak? I remember one predicted that his collegiate PR would end up being around 13:30.
Some of you need to step up and admit you don't know jack about competitive distance running.
Agree.
If Jacob Kiplimo ran in the Olympics at 15 years old then I think Nicos training is just fine.

I remember all these posters that pretend to know Nico's training in HS and say is was over trained. I'm sorry, but this kid was developed in High School and now college. It''s awesome to see. Congrats to Nico.

Huh? Nico ran away from him. They are both really good but to say Abdi looked better is a big stretch. Nico doing this time at 18 makes me think he can eventually go sub 13. And get NCAA titles.
This is not a knock on Nico Young’s incredible 13:24 for 5000m but Ritz ran 13:27 in his freshman track season in 2002, both incredible as well as German Fernandez 13:25
The reason I made that point is in the shoe era their times would be faster nevertheless great run by Nico
Current runner in the shoes, I know plenty of people who run the same times they did the year before in them, some PR after a good training block where a their workouts were faster and stronger but it must be the shoes
You severely overestimate them, they allow you to not be as beat up mid race and after training but it’s not worth like 10 sec
German ran his 13:25 at almost the identical age of Young, without the 5+ second shoe advantage if Young wore the new ones? Not sure that he does?
Who are these elite guys running the same times? And plenty of them? Please name 5 top NCAA guys who ran the same times in the new shoes. You can't do it but we can name 25 of the top guys who did.

There were plenty of people in the race wearing 'the new shoes' who didn't even come close to their personal bests before the shoes. The shoes don't make you a ton faster, a couple seconds in a 5k at best. The big difference is they don't cause injury as much, so these runners won't be hobbling around today after running a fast race in crappy spikes

Please be careful, and consider the predictions for the jr runner whose record he just broke.

Someone that didn't improve after his Freshman year is an outlier. There's no reason to believe that Young isn't on his way to having a tremendous career.
Anyone notice that Sam Parsons and Jordan Gusman are listed running under Adidas while Reed Fisher is listed under adidas/Tinman Elite.
Goes to show who the snakes are in that group...
Actually he did improve.
German was a freak show early on. 3:55.0 Indoors, 7:47 and 13:25 as an 18 year old frosh.
Very marginally, but he did run 13:24.x at 22 , and 3:34 for 1500M.
Give him what?? With the shoe on, multiple times? He ran 13:24 and 13;25? So, what? 13:19? LOL
Hey, I was never the big improvement from the shoes, guy,
But after talking to one Elite and two different high level Elite coaches who have guys that have worn them and are experienced World Class types, they say up to 8-10 secs for a 10K, so cut it in half for a 5K?Kind of makes sense if you look at the deluge of so many wild PRs this year.

None of that adds up to thinking Young is not going to a great runner. I believe he is the most talented 5/10K runner since Rupp.
Just about everyone on LR is excited about how Hocker is running and justifiably so, but when it comes to Young, a lot of posters seem to be rooting against him. It makes no sense to me.
I checked his splits and his time for 3200 matched his Arcadia win which is an impressive improvement.
You can see just by the way he’s built he has professional-level talent. I’m looking forward to seeing him tearing it up at 10k and the roads in a couple years.
About the shoes, has Adidas released a super spike yet? It didn’t look like the NAU guys were wearing Vics or Dragonflys, but maybe they cut off the logos and painted them or something.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
