Mask are useless and people who voluntarily work out on them are utterly worthless and should not reproduce.
Change my mind science politicians.

No thanks.
Neither would you admit that they work nor would you admit you were wrong if you discovered they worked.
All to impress your redneck friends.
Science is wasted on you. I'm glad you run because you're a nebulous bubblehead without the sport.
Lots of democrats understand that masking outdoors is usually unnecessary, as explained by this excellent New England Journal of Medicine piece:
If you disregard the opinion of Republicans who don't believe masks make any difference in any setting, who don't believe in vaccines, and who think Covid is a hoax, there probably isn't much difference along party lines in the views on outdoor masking.
I remember some slip streaming nonsense from about two years ago.
Turns out that two fluid dynamacists did a little study into stuff for a game and it got picked up upon.
Sadly, none of their workings or assumptions were available.
So here is the thing. Fluids. Gases and liquids are both fluids. Bodies in fluids have both mass and buoyancy depending on relative densities. They also have drag else hammers would fall as fast as feathers, like they do on the moon.
Bodies are acted upon by forces such as gravity and any motion in the fluid (deendent on drag).
All the above is actually far more complex and unless those complexities are known and understood, all presented conclusins are meaningless.
In the particular study showing particles from runners, amongst many items not given was the relative buoyancy. So depending on the assumption the bodies might float up, remain constant height, or fall under gravity. Pretty huge differences from the simplest assumption.
aka the study was rubbish.
I havent seen any more recent or better ones about runners. the study in the chinese restaurant about the ac was better.
so if anyone is going to talk about 'slipstreams' etc from runners etc, please post study. If study doesnt list assumptions, dont bother.
Hint; starting models in fluid dynamics assume that perfect spheres dont generate drag. thats why we need to get complicated.
What in the he** are you talking about?
I'm not talking about slipstream from the wake of a watercraft.
I'm talking about respiratory slipstream of expired RNA particular matter that remains in the air as someone runs through it.
Runners are not superhuman. You're not invincible when you run and the toxicity of your SLIPSTREAM as someone runs behind you or their SLIPSTREAM as you run behind them unmitigated can easily lead to the inhalation of particular matter and quite possibly any Covid-19 particles that could lead to the RNA mutation that manifests as Covid-19.
The things that you will all deny so that you can have your lives back are uncanny. Maybe some of you should have diversified so that you had alternatives while you and your friends could not race.
I infinitely care more about the amount of people who succumb to the virus via your logic than whether or not you can race again.
Get a life.
Im not denying anything, i am simply asking for a legitimate study on the behavi0ur and dangers of exhalations in the running community.
i am also saying that if people are basing their beleifs on either guesswork or sketchy info, please provide better info for the benefit of the community.
thats all. dont read anything else into it please.
and dynamics at fluid interfaces are completely different from submerged bodies - which is what exhaled bodies would probably be considered.
Runners' World UK has an article on runner slipstream.
Running magazine canada has an article on runner slipstream.
The New York Times has an article wondering if 15 feet is the new 6 feet for runners because of slipstream.
NBC San Diego has a story on runners and slipstream.
This information is out there if people would listen or read
MarketWatch.com also has an article about virus transmission with regard to slipstream.
No runner has ever collapsed at the finish line before.

I appreciate your caution and concern for others, but those are not scientific or even peer-reviewed journals, and I believe that all of those articles are based on the same single study that was conducted by fluid dynamics experts with no knowledge of virology. A year into the pandemic there is significant (albeit not perfect) consensus among virologists that being outdoors with a few feet of distance is extremely safe, as is briefly passing others at very close distances.

You've just illustrated that your whole aim is for your desire for your freaking family.
It's not coming from a place of benevolence. You just want what you want.
Brass tacks bucko, Since late May 2020, I have been working with other people's children after a 2 month shutdown where we DO use masks, hospital grade sprays, disinfectant sprays, gloves, social distancing and every freaking GD thing that the authorities expect.
So you depraved jerk, take care of enjoying your family, but this Democrat has been successfully using the standards of safety for the protection of many, you piece of garbage.
So don't purport to use your own family as justification.
If you have a further issue, we will deal with that accordingly.
I can’t believe people let you work with their kids
Everyone wants an open America.
The CDC is lessening distancing in schools.
Governors are ending mandates
Mayors are ending mandates.
Virologists are working to safely open up because of the push to open up.
However, nothing is written in their scientific platforms that the studies on slipstream are scientifically incorrect.
The articles are not peer-reviewed, nor are the statements of virologists in this case.
But RNA is RNA. One breath in your face...even one..contains an incredible amount of RNA...which could include viral particles.
Nobody needs a peer review for that. That's empirical.
Love watching everyone calling others idiots and morons to somehow legitimize what they are saying. This thread is perfect to show the letsrun scientists and experts at work. Idiots!
And I don't care what you can or can't believe.
Look, this is terrible but the Oregonian leans right & what you shared is an opinion piece that doesn't include any quotes from anyone in government or in medicine. This was written for the anti-mask crowd, with the knowledge of the considerations state government is making when it comes to mask. It's disingenuous to conflate the two.
I'm not saying masks in an 800 are a healthy/good thing. Times aren't normal. COVID measures are in place. It's not like we're seeing this story day after day. This article was written for a reason -- not because the Oregonian cares about HS girls 800m times.
Going out in 61 & trying to run 2:10 is the definition of going into oxygen debt. The 800 is a race that ends like this for people who go for it like that.

It begs the question if Oregon’s crazy governor will try and force college athletes or participants at the Olympic trials to wear a mask during their events. If not, why single out children in Oregon? If so, I hope the USATF has a plan to move the trials and the World Championships in 2022.
Hey, friend, can we stop with this whole calling female governor's "crazy" just because you don't like their politics. Kate Brown is in line with Biden Democrats. She's nowhere near democratic socialism. People like you don't comment on threads and call male politicians who are further left crazy.
Kate Brown is plenty competent. I lean to the left of her so she's not my cup of tea but compare her to the men that have always run politics. She isn't anything different. She isn't crazy. Try to have a rational discussion without using outdated labels.

I hear you’re concerned about politics and sexism. But my post was about an incompetent, dangerous and inconsistant policy that targets children. I’ll repeat my post below in case someone misconstrued my post as relating to politics or male/female issues:
