I saw a Gordon Ramsey show where he instructed the waiter to give out different menus that don't have the bargain deals if the customers look like they came to spend.
Is this a real thing?

It was a TV show, not a documentary.
That seems like a place I would like to eat. Why would you want to eat at a place tailored to someone else's income?

The question is why even have the bargain deals on the menu at all? Don't they want everyone to order the full-price items?
Colleges do this all the time. They charge people who are wealthier more for the same product.
They also charge people who are slower more for the same product. In fact, they not only charge the faster people less, they give them clothing and access to high end training facilities and provide them with personal coaches and top tier medical support and often even tutors!!!!
I am familiar of one Chinese restaurant that has a completely different menu (in mandarin) for its Chinese guests. Probably not what you mean. But I can assure you as a service industry employee for far too long, EVERYONE is profiled.
what's the point? wrote:

The higher priced items have higher margins.
