Glenn Gould in his 1981 Goldberg Variations
For variety, I'll throw in a few mini-solos:
Andy Summers' solo in Driven To Tears
Prince's opening to When Doves Cry
Danny Seraphine's fill in Make Me Smile
Paul Gonsalves, tenor sax with Duke Ellington Orchestra at Newport Jazz Festival in 1956 - Diminuendo And Crescendo in Blue. Starts at 4:23
in the dead of night- allan holdsworth's guitar
the cinema show- tony banks' organ/arp/mellotron
Surprised no one mentioned SRV. I like his version of Little Wing and it's basically a long instrumental.
Agree with the others about Knoppfler and David Gilmour
Jimi Hendrix Machine Gun (So much soul in the main solo)
Also Robin Trower very under rated. His long solo at the end of TooRollin'Stoned and his solo in the middle of Fool and Me are quite good if you like blues-rock.
Also some people may not like Ted Nugent politically but he had some killer solos. Love his solo on Writing on the Wall.
Hard to pick one of his, but Ace Frehley's solos on the makeup-era KISS albums inspired a million kids to pick up tennis racquets, then guitars of their own. The string-bending vibrato in "Got To Choose" is a good example (go to 2:24 for the solo):
Sad.
No Miles? Bird? Trane? Brecker? Metheny? Wes? Even if you want the pop/rock genre, Michael Brecker crushed it. Still Crazy, After All These Years.
Kudos to the Holdsworth mention.
Talking of jazz. Here's the amazing Charlie Christian from 80 yrs ago!

Jimmy Page's solo in Stairway to Heaven is clearly the best rock guitar solo. Perfect phrasing and meter. Was one of three solos he recorded for STH -- all three a one shot deal. All three completely different. They definitely chose the right one. I don't think the masters on the other two exist. Makes you wonder?
I'll agree with Jimmy Page's favorite solo of all time -- Elliott Randall's beautifully executed solo in Reelin' In The Years.
Telecasters were the guitar of choice on both songs. The "Dragon Telecaster" was used on STH.

Bad miming job there
Speaking of star spangled banner
Led Zep: Ten Years Gone
Guns n Roses- Sweet Child of Mine
Testament- The Legacy
Social distortion - Cold Feelings
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
White Snake - Still of the Night
Guns N Roses- Its so Easy
There's probably more which I can't think of right now.

I thought that I posted it already. Apparently not.

That’s an awesome sax solo in an excellent song. Good call.
Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull on flute such as in "My God". Also like the guitar close of Boston's "Hitch a Ride"

Hellll yeah. Last winter (‘19-‘20) I did some treadmill tempo runs where I listened to “Locomotive Breath” and felt truly unstoppable, particularly during the flute solo.
I've always like Rick Beato's videos, especially his stuff on perfect pitch.
