Ageism run amuck?
Ageism run amuck?
this site is rampant with hate and negativity on any subject, any person
only now that some of the hate and negativity is directed at masters runners, crybaby 60 year olds who have been insulting everything under the sun previously are coming out of the woodwork and saying "oh, wait, you have to be nice to me"

Probably. On top of that, some people on LetsRun can't seem to fathom the idea that someone could enjoy running without breaking world records. These individuals are probably the same ones who also hate on:
- Non-D1 college runners
- People who run for fun
- High schoolers who aren't national class
- etc.
I think a lot of people are ignorant and say things on here that they normally wouldn't if actually speaking to someone. It's graffiti.

Of course, it's the anonymity factor, keyboard courage and all. Of course, it could be that all these threads were started by one teenager who is still burning over getting outkicked by a masters runner at last week's joggerville 5k.
I don't know :(. How old are you turkey man? Are you an old turkey or a spring chicken? Heheh.
Us old guys are oversensitive and like to talk too much, so we're suckers for troll threads. Occupational hazard.

Those people: "Kids these days are too soft. Back in my day we ran 300 miles a week, uphill in the snow with no shoes at 4 am. Sure, I was a quadriplegic at 16, but my teenage drinking buddy heard about a guy who went to a school near ours who had a cousin who did the same thing and went pro."
Also them: "Noooooo, you can't make fun of me because of my age! Respect you elders!"
Both camps are ridiculous. People need to stop being toxic losers and go do some running or something. Geez.
It's because, from 20,000 feet, us Masters ran faster when we were the age of the complainers, and they know it.
right, this is what i mean
i have no problem with someone being a masters runner
i have a problem when someone is ranting about participation trophies and how today's kids need to be coddled, all while stroking their horn to "age grade tables"
Whether one is twenty years old, or eighty, the minimum requirement to become a NATIONAL CLASS runner is 80% performance.
It's an exclusive club, and you ain't in it.
it's all about the AGE GRADE wrote:

in an age graded calculator, my 50.12 400m at 19 years old is worth a 49.58, and is an 87% performance. wow, i did go under 50 in the open 400m after all.
thank you for opening my eyes
The answer to this is simple.
The younger people can't race off their alcohol and marijuana.
Since all they knew was run run run, and coachie taught them no different and their Olympic dreams or professional running dreams are behind them, they are sitting and stewing with nobody else to blame.
They can't blame someone for their alcohol
They can't blame someone for smoking marijuana.
So since they have put their WHOLE lifelong identity into running and little else, they are lashing out against masters.
They slept in school when lessons on coping mechanisms were taught.
That's all.
Nah.
I don't need anyone to be nice to me because I will continue not being nice to others.
So you're telling us you used to be in THE CLUB as a teenager, but are no longer in it.
We already had you figured out. You no longer meet the performance of your younger days, so you come onto the Masters threads and vent your frustrations; too obvious.
look i was legitimately sad that i never ran under 50 or 2:00 open, those are huge barriers and we all know that relay splits are fake
age grade tables, however are real, and i am now a 49/1:58 guy
Another reason we need to end virtual schools and get these junior high students back in the classroom.
Masters runners don’t care what youngsters think of them. We wear dress socks with running shoes for goodness sakes.
The only thing we care about is that you kids get off my lawn. Hahahaha.
For nearly forty years, students at My Old School have looked up at the track and field records sign, displayed high above the gym floor, and seen my name atop the "mile" charts. The year displayed falls further and further behind each time new students arrive and notice, these students who stand the chance of having parents who weren't even alive when I ran that fast.
Weird, how the time that I beat way back then had been the school's best for only 8 years. It seemed so old! The guy who'd done it had graduated, had a college degree, had a job in The Real World!
Meanwhile, I'm near retirement age, and there's a chance I'll be dead by the time some kid gets off his ass in newfangled shoes on that non-cinder track and takes down my time.
And you wonder why they're pissed off?

Hott!
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
