This is inspired from a thread that was created a few days ago where I saw that I fellow was in the same situation as myself, but I didn't bother do go and dig it up.
Like him, I, too, am runnging about 75 mi/wk and put in 9-10 miles continuous the day before my college 8k's. How much faster would you think I can go if I cut back to say, 30 min w/ strides as a pre-race run? I've been at this training level for quite a while so I am very used to the demands of it. I have only been in the 29's (sadly) so far this year for this distance but feel that I have a lot more in the tank.
I know this is just purely speculation, but just wanted to get some ideas.
