He is the best chance, but that is still about a 1% chance to medal.

Hocker = Blankenship
Could clayton move up? cause I think he'd have more success there then trying to run it back in the 800 one more time just to barely make the team and get stomped at the games. Also I'm assuming this thread is talking about most likely male medalist cause hocker is definetly not the most likely american to medal

This is your Oly final prediction? That is what this thread is about. There's not even a possibility that a heat in the first round goes this way. Everyone else has it as a long shot that any American medals at all. I agree. You have them sweeping the Men's. Do you figure team USA cleans up the Women's too?

US men do not make it out of the semi-finals unless DB runs.

Centrowitz always starts his seasons slow and peaks when it counts. And he's basically always a medal threat. How does lrc forget this. Every. Single. Year?

I have done similar workouts in college a 4:28; 4:23; 4:18: 4:17; 4:12; 4:10 for 4x1600m and never broke 4or made the Olympics. I am know other runners that are doing similar. He is good but doesn't have a chance at the team.
Supposed to be 6x1600m
This thread is about which Americans have the best chance of medalling. Those are the three listed in order of 1-2-3. Seems pretty clear.

Actually our best chance would be Brazier if he cared to run even though he won't. Still, you never know what will happen in 800 and he probably will always be entered in the 1500 just as a backup.
Lol. Please stop this nonsense. Brazier never had any indication to be a top 1500 runner and he still does not. Hocker, Teare, are far ahead. Brazier is not touching Engels either.
I agree the the majority of posters on here that Hocker has a great shot to make the US Team. I do not by any means think he is a lock as going through the rounds is much different than NCAA racing and guys like Blakenship, Engles, Centro, Gregorek, Thompson, ect have proven themselves at national championships. I do want to say that I think it is a pretty crazy to be hyping Hocker to an Olympic medal. I think if he made the team it would be incredible and then just making the final would be be outstanding for the 19 year old. I just don't see him this year beating Tim, Jakob, Lewandowski, Wightman, Tefera, Makloufi, Kerr, Kwemoi, ect.

i understand the chances are slim and i’m not trying to hype him winning a medal or put any pressure on him. just the way things are looking hes our best miler right now with elite closing speed. i know it’s a long shot, but he has the best long shot out of the rest of the Americans IMO.
Grant stated in his Citius Mag podcast interview that he no longer thinks of himself as a miler.
Although he stated his main goal for BTC's recently completed winter camp in Flagstaff was to get the 10k standard, most of the discussion on the Trial centered on his competition in the 5k.
Grant did state he may run a 1500 or two as tuneup races between now and the Trials.
I remember Leo Manzano won the silver medal in 2012 with a 3:32 pr so you never know what is possible if some of these Americans get down to 3:31-3:32 shape. Obviously the field will be a lot more talented this year, but you never know. Anything could happen in the olympics. It doesn't mean anyone can do it. But if the runner is mentally focused, races really smart(like Centro), and effectively peaks for that specific day, you never know what could happen.
No
Whoah, you're basing this on one really really go day he had. Races are highly unpredictable.
3:38.99 with a 55 last lap. Something many Americans, let alone athletes globally, are capable of.
Let’s not get carried away.

He treated that race like a prelim. He did what was necessary to win. He’s going up against a 1:45 runner in the 800m today so we will see how he does and what his true 800m ability is.

Meh, he looked pretty strained to me. Certainly wasn't a dominating performance. He's a great talent but I'll look forward to seeing him at the 2024 Olympics instead.
I’d have to agree with you on this one. Yes that 3x1600 workout was impressive but he needs to prove that he can run well under 3:55 before he’s even considered for a spot.
