it would take a ton of rain for that course to get muddy
The course is better than astro turf. The course will never have water or mud. The course is so wide that you won't notice any turns.
The course used to be a lot better and had more character than it does now. The stream crossings were more challenging as were the turns. When they renovated the course they made it easier. It's still more challenging than Terre Haute & Louisville.
If you're thinking about the old OSU course, yes, it would be nasty with a couple inches of rain, and very challenging even without. They did some SERIOUS work out there with the turf and irrigation and drainage. It's surprising that it's even in the same place. For reference, I ran the old course 5 or 6 times and the new one once, but I've been at three races on the new one. At the 2019 regional they had people blowing leaves off the course - I can't even imagine the lengths they'll go to to make this thing pristine. FWIW, I'd rather race on the nasty one when they still had the cattle guard steps to jump over and all the soggy wood chips

The "bloodbath" hype is nonsense. Times are going to be faster than NCAA's the previous few years. They are running on astroturf.
In 2017 the winning men's team averaged 29:31 with the individual winner running 29:00 (4:40 pace)
2018 - winning team average 29:39 with individual winner 29:08 (4:41 pace)
2019 - Winning team average 31:08 with individual winner 30:32 (4:55 pace)
In October Grijalva ran 23:30 on the OSU course for 8k. In 2019, Kurgat ran 23:47 for 8k at LaVerne Gibson (Grijalva was 23:58).
I plan to practice my putting game on the course after the races.
The 10k course is much harder than the 8k course. The 8k version runs around the outer edge of the facility and avoids many of the major hills. I think the times would compare to the UW Madison 8k races if more teams were there to jack the pace up.
The 10k goes through the middle section more adding the biggest hill twice.
You haven't got a clue what cross country is,just running on grass/astro turf doesn't make it cross country.
As usual us Brits have to show you how to do it properly
Got to agree on this on. XC has turned into a glorified track race here in the US. A few hay bales or logs never hurt anyone. That is what XC is all about. Run hard place well, not about a 'certified' distance or obsession with time.
Xc in the lower 48 is nothing short of everyone trying to get as fast times as they can and when they encounter a 'hilly' course it's gonna be a bloodbath. Gimme a break. The course on strava has 460 ft of gain over 10k. in alaska an average course is at least 200 over 5 and our hardest course is 440 over 5k with a 1k climb.
It's interesting what it is like to participate in such contests. I have never been here.
"It depends on if you like such events. My friends, for example, love to participate in such things, but I don't. With all my heart, I can say that I hate running, especially in the mud. It isn't enjoyable. At all. The only thing I can do there is taking pictures of my loved ones as they enjoy it.
Tbh, I'd rather hire a location from
and take photos there. But what can't you do for your loved ones, haha.
Anyway, how I said, it's a personal preference. Until you try it, you won't know."
