Agreed on this being taken out of context by the OP. Reading the whole interview, Ferlic has a broader and more-comprehensive view that's not out of line.
Maybe his personality and general attitude is a little whiny, but I think the points he make stand.
Yeah, his comment in context is entirely reasonable and he honestly makes a good point. It loops back to 2016 - Rupp having the prototypes as Nike's golden child, and entering discussions of whether he would have even medaled if everyone was wearing the same footwear. The idea that sponsor favoritism can influence placing is certainly concerning and worth a discussion.
All of this would be reasonable if he didn't insinuate that he might have missed out on making the team or getting renewed by NIKE because he didn't have access to shoes others did is PREPOSTEROUS.
he lost to 4 other NIKE athletes none of whom were wearing prototypes and finished almost 20 seconds back in a 3k steeplechase, there is nothing to discuss and wonder here. you were on equal footing and got flat out smoked.
on not getting renewed; when Ben True with 7 years in a row of 13:02-13:12 results is unsponsored and your whining about not getting resigned when your last year of a contract looks like this:

signing a contract out of college you get paid based on potential, if you don't show progress there is zero chance your getting renewed unless you were a world beater to start
