Actually that's the whole problem. There is democrat in the house. We all lose.
Poor demented & triggered lefty loony bird. Everyone I met like you is an unhealthy, ill-ridden, ill-minded, bitter, unloved, poor loser. Are you writing from the dank, moldy 150 sq ft basement you are 10 months behind on rent? While lighting candles and worshippping the hand made figurines of your patron saints Pelosi, Biden, Schumer, Fauci, Gates, et al?

The GOP is a party of cheap factory dummies. Get a degree. Become smart or just shut up.
Were my words too large?
TL;DR for GOP: Too dumb; Get smart, or shut up.
Mr. Smith, one doesn’t need a degree to be smart. I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with non-degreed individual who were “smart” enough to manage degreed and masters degreed personnel very effectively.
One doesn’t need to be smart to speak their piece. With this logic individuals who are not smart should just shut up their voting rights.
And I had a good number of “cheap factory dummies” that would outsmart you on their bad days. Some are red and some are blue.
It saddens me that I guess a fellow runner would post such an uninformed vile view.
They have a decent chance of being OK as I don't think adherence was high to begin with.
B117 and other variants pose a significant risk but Texas gets pretty warm soon, no? People will be outside.
If places actually hold massive indoor events and nightclubs and bars open then it's almost certain we will see a spike. Fingers crossed.
They are also 15% vaccinated which hopefully includes a ton of at risk people.

I'm continually impressed by the level of political discourse on this site.

Cases and deaths have gone way down and the vaccine is being administered so I have no problem with this.
Alan
Texas has one of the lowest vaccine rates, but still at 20% (one dose assumed - so not perfect obv)
https://ourworldindata.org/us-states-vaccinations
with natural immunity, kids, previousy infected, there is now a highly significant part of the population at even further very reduced risk.
but this is clearly going to lead to at least a slowing in the reduction of cases, and likely an increase.
I think he is wrong. If he wanted to take a lead he should have said; looking at the indicators, provided we achieve x and y then we will lift restrictions on z date.
z should probably be end of march, x should be a number = to 1/2 the pop = number of vacc administared and y should be daily case rate below 10 per 100 000. apply safety factor between 0.5 and 2 etc to your hearts content.
he could then have altered if he wanted depending on progress / reaction.
I wish texas the best, but fear the worst. their daily case rate is simply too high and increasing since feb 20.
People have been ignoring the rules/they haven’t been enforced in the state for months. Abbott’s lifting of restrictions is not going to make as much of an impact as people think.
I live next to a bunch of bars and nightclubs- they are packed in like sardines every Thursday- Saturday.

Important point here. Abbott's action is probably more recognizing a situation than creating it.
Sometimes leadership is just seeing where everybody is already headed, and getting there first.
Good move, Abbott ?!? Texas has 11 of the 20 most active Covid counties in the U.S. ! Also, their largest city, Houston, has tested positive for all 5 Covid varients ! Let a horrible experiment begin.
Interesting. For starters, please don't refer to me as a fellow runner. I run, sure; I've done quite a bit of races, sure. But I run for me, myself and I, my improvement, my goals, my health. Whereas the likelihood of ever spending time at a postrun anything with any runner was already not something that entered my mind before the pandemic, you and your friends and buddies can be rest assured that I hate the mindset of runners during this pandemic to the point that I have no respect for other runners or even the sport itself at this point. Many of you are not great people who would likely sacrifice lives or whatever to achieve a time or meet at a bar after running. I have no respect for any of your coaches that gave you all that mindset. No, I'm not one of you. I'm not a fellow, buddy, friend nor acquaintance and I wouldn't even like most of you. My quote is vile? Of course it is! It was made with the same spirit of the previous quote that insinuated that Biden supporters were losers. That quote was bluster and I gave bluster back. If you're offended, too bad. I'm not here to stroke egos and I definitely do not think being a runner garners extra respect across all vistas. If people get offended by my posts, then they either need thicker skin or to watch what they post...or just face the music either way. I said what I said regardless of who likes it or not.

You’ve also got no problem with touching teenagers. Don’t make it right old man.
Texas is almost exactly in the same level of infection that Czechia was in before their most recent surge began. Vaccinations will help lower the death toll and will make the next surge more gradual, but there is no reason to believe that the natural level of infection is enough to stop another surge. However, if the UK variant takes over, all bets are off on how big and fast the next surge will be.
March in Texas is generally mild, but we still get decent cold fronts. The big problem for March in Texas will be spring break. Port Aransas and South Padre Island are huge spring break destinations. With no capacity limits, we will see some bigtime superspreader events over spring break.
It is also no coincidence that Abbott made this move just before spring break. One of his COVID 19 "advisors" is Tillman Fertita. He owns hotels on Galveston and a "Pleasure Pier" (that is really what it is called, it is just a mini Six Flags on a pier on Galveston) and needs to make some cash over spring break.
I understand that Abbott and all his right winger friends have no issue letting thousands of Texans die just so a few rich Texans can make a few extra bucks between now and this summer when everyone will be vaccinated and it will actually be safe to reopen. But taking the risk of giving the virus an opportunity to develop an escape variant that can defeat the current vaccines is tantamount to a crime against humanity. If this reckless strategy gives rise to a variant that defeats the mRNA vaccines and sets the world back to square one on developing vaccines, Abbott should be brought to the Hague and tried.
It's fun to revisit news stories of a year ago. The 65 percent number was thrown around quite a bit back then - once we had herd immunity/a vaccine for 65 percent of the US population, this would be over.
We'll be there in maybe 10 days.
Hooray, this is very good! I'm happy for the Texans.
