Again, MARA was hired to work the finish line, and we were also asked to provide a chip mat start and 15 mile split. Did that. That, and some data entry, was all MARA was asked to do. Several of us certainly tried to help in other ways, too.
If you want to help us or make constructive criticism, come forward, or visit with us at the Chili Run, we will all be there from our board. We try our best, we are human, I sure as hell know I have made my share of mistakes in my life.
I especially feel for the people who thought they were running their 1) first, their 2) fastest, their 3) doing it for the inspiring moment, etc.
I am disappointed, too, that the certified courses were not run as measured, because I also keep state records, and looked forward to getting some more times to enter. But that has happened to me, and so my first sub-3 marathon didn't happen because of a course lacking a key volunteer. Fortunately I was able to do that later, and even faster.
Now I am going to try to get myself ready for one.
