I am posting to see if anyone has any information on this injury or can point me in the right direction.
Last December I ran in the Mississippi Gulf Marathon, it was my 6th marathon in 2 months but this is not unusual for me as I averaged about 15 a year for the last 4 years. At mile 18 I started to feel a burning feeling in my groin and I thought I tore an adductor or had some kind of hernia. I finished the race, but about an hour after the race I experienced a what I can only describe as a UTI on steroids thats continued to this day. I have a burning feeling permeating my groin. I feel like I had to pee constantly and I can barely lift anything or doing any kind of exercise. Right now i'm only functioning on heavy narcotics.
I went to the doctor that week and he did an MRI thinking I had a sports hernia. The results came back and he said i have a very bad case of something called Osteitis Pubis. I haven't been able to run in 3 months, I can barely function as a human. Everything I read about this said that its an overuse injury, but my injury came on suddenly.
The doctor put me on complete rest for 6 months. Some things ive read on the internet say this can take years to heal. Ive also read that this is very rare for a male runner. I am 38 years old and was just getting to my prime marathon years, I recently ran a 2:29 and was pushing for an OTQ in the near future. Is this the end of my running career? 3 months later and I can still barely function in everyday life, 6 months does not even seem remotely like enough time. Just looking for answers.
