Yessssssss!!!!!!! Fantastic news.
28 men sub-2:09, 42 sub-2:10. 174 men sub-2:20

His first ‘thon in augmented footwear. First a pro contract, then a wife, now super shoes? You’ve changed, bro.
Pumped for him though. Hope he knocks it down even further
174 under 2:20. US runners should be ashamed of themselves. Not since Pearl Harbor have we been embarrassed this bad by the Japanese.
He appears to have posted his training if anyone wants to decipher it...

This is fantastic! I read it through google translate which made some aspects kind of confusing (would anyone here be able to give a more nuanced translation?) but it’s seemed to be very focused on pace running (similar to Hitomi Niiya’s training I think?)
Burnsy,
I'm not very savvy on hunting through social media (though I do look at your twitter feed from time to time). Do you have any definitive info on the shoes Yuki was wearing, even if it is a good photo? Link?
I support you on your recommendations to remove all restrictions on the shoes, except for stack height.
He was wearing the new Asics prototype. Basically it looks like a taller Metaracer. The upper is like in the Metaracer but the midsole is thick like an Adios Pro midsole.

Thank you so much! Great post!

It remains to be seen. Maybe ASICS knocked it out of the park. We don't know the foam yet (e.g., NYLON 12?). Certainly, maybe their last will accommodate those with larger/wider feet.
The Skechers 'High-Stack HyperBurst Speed Elite' looks interesting:

Wonder what weight it comes in at?
Come in at <$140 on it Skechers, and you'll probably sell some, eh?

This was meant to be in reply to 'mike.' .

Very helpful. On the face-of-it, it is not a good look for the 'The Garmin Race Predictor', particularly for long distance races like the marathon. However, we need more insight (from Garmin) whether it is stacking historical workout data (which could have been done on circuits with hills, in slow shoes, etc.), and not overtly influenced by just the latest run (his 2:07 @ LakeBiwaMarathon).
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
