After running 13.36 for the 5k in Texas last night Craig posted on IG that he was 'unbelievably stoked' and had gone in to the race 'with the goal of breaking 14'. Pete Julian also posted about how Craig had 'knocked it out the park'.
Does this not seem a little odd? This is guy who has won a 1500m national title and would probably be disappointed if he didn't make the Olympic team this year. I get that he's more of an 800/1500 athlete but so is Centro and when he ran 13.32 in a t-shirt last December people used it as evidence that he was washed. Also, amongst numerous other examples, Centro's 13.00 PR shows that elite 800/1500 ability can definitely be transferable to the 5k.
Sure, the time is okay (and it doesn't really matter what he runs at this point in the year anyway) but I just find his and Pete's reactions kind of perplexing. Breaking 14 is something which decent college athletes pretty frequently - as a pro who is probably approaching his peak, surely he should be aiming a little higher than that?
