No that's not it. If random elderly blacks were attacked in a number of cities because they were black you would see major demonstrations and extensive major media coverage and sports teams would do something to help victims.
Asian Americans do not have the political clout that blacks have.
All of the the demonstrations I've seen, have been as a result of actions taken by police officers. As bad as the Arbery shooting was, it didn't generate any protests.
I haven't heard of confrontations between the police and Asian Americans. There are countless videos of blacks being shot by police but I have yet to see one with an Asian victim.
But the conversation has now been taken to places way beyond police brutality. There are changes in admissions standards to colleges, SAT Subject Tests are out in the name of equity, mamy companies have updated their policies toward more fairness toward minorities to name a few, but the list goes on and on.
So why does this, from your viewpoint, not matter when we talk about Asian minorities? They’ve faced a tough year and there are increasingly more violent attacks on the group. Seems like we should feel united to stand up for this as opposed to saying things like “Oh, it wasn’t that bad,” as you’ve said several times. That’s not how many Asian people are currently feeling and I don’t think you should speak for them and say this wasn’t a big deal.
It’s possible to stand up for BLM and other groups simultaneously.
