Thank you for clearing that up.
Thank you for clearing that up.
In my experience, profession was a better indicator of who would go to hard on gear and tech. I used to run with a guy who was an oil and gas engineer. He kept spreadsheets of his pace and heart monitor data from workouts and races and would put together multipage blog posts with hypotheses on pacing strategy using complex graphs to compare race performances.
They did not have tracksmith or the other high end clothing in my heyday. Most of us had a pair of trainers and racers and that was it on footwear.
I’m so happy to be living rent free in your brain
LOL, some little prick got smoked by a middle aged, well dressed hobby jogger.
Hey, bro. Maybe you think buying a lot of that stuff is overkill, but consider this. The fact that they do keeps the prices down for the occasional things you do want to buy and it creates the demand so that companies keep producing them, updating their products, innovating, and bothering to market them at all.,
That's right.
Trust me on this.
And if they come across as entitled beecehs, help 'em out. Just talk to them and you'd be surprised how much gets ironed out.
At least they are getting off their asses and doing something. That's more than a lot can say.
Lastly, I can say that i've been in other rather snooty sports before, and by comparison, runners are the salt of the earth. I really feel proud of my running group, and the runners i see at races. They are the good guys/gals.
In my experience, “rich” guys appreciate the value of money and are least prone to spend on frills. That said, they are more likely to pamper their kids with those same frills
This is pretty funny. I was just thinking the other day that the younger me would have slapped current me upside the head and called me a poser. And I'm not half as geared out as what you describe. But I do have a GPS watch with music and I wear headphones. Also with the getting dark early I'm running with a light. That's about it though. And I do hand carry a bottle of water for the kids sometimes if they come with me (not really for me but it makes me look extra poser-ish to others).
What rich runners need is the very best online coach! www.coachjs.se
Just like the guy who has the fancy guitar but doesn't have the chops...all of that bling doesn't matter if you're a slug.
Sorry to say but minimalism isn't cool anymore. And you don't need to be rich to afford those things; you could purchase everything on the list for $1,000 give or take. Add in an in-home sauna, an altitude chamber (for the whole room, not just a tent), an underwater treadmill or an ellipti-go for cross training then you could MAYBE label that rich.
What's really being rich in this life? I'm old and had a long life of experience and I will tell you the secret. The answer is experienced reel LOVE!
Okay boomer.

Absofreakinlutely bro. I love my new Jan Stensson inflatable larger than lifesize doll. It was expensive, but worth every penny. My GF loves it even more. We're so happy together, just the 3 of us. 4 if you count the dog.
It's just because people:
1. Are middle or upper middle class and above. They have plenty of money, so what's a couple hundred or even thousand on running stuff.
2. Love running, so want to get the most out of it.
What else are you gonna spend money on? Most people spend it on $8 beers, $14 cocktails and stupid stuff like that.

Yes, thanks for bringing that up.
we love you Jan, you're the best.
Magic Mushrooms.
Why do you care? If someone rich or not rich wants to have some or all of those items it is their money and their choice. It doesn't affect anyone else.
You forgot:
1. Matching track suit
2. Paid coaching
3. European car/suv to drive to local races
There’s a difference between a poser and someone who enjoys/loves the sport.
i'm not sure which is more cringeworthy - having that crap or noticing and getting upset about it.
No, I think i know which is more cringeworthy.
Well done, OP.
