Well that post above was weird! It was meant to be in reponse to the guy who said our reaction to her run was typical white male - pissed.

he is not a Mizuno sponsored runner. Club kit is Mizuno, which is probably the most popular apparel brand next to Asics. He can wear what he chooses.

Pissed? Not even close, this woman is a great runner. I wish I could understand what she's saying in that video. Impressed? Inspired? YES! I ran 2:54 when I was 50 but now at 59 1/2 I'd be doing very well to break 3:15. As I'm retiring now, this great runner makes me wonder if I have one last sub-3 in me if I trained seriously for a year or so. Hey, will Vaporfly's get me 15 minutes?! I got all the time in the world now and I'm not injured in any way. Currently at 50mpw, hmmm ... CIM here I come!
50mpw! Why aren't you running 125mpw as she is - and she is older than you?

Although she competed in the 1500m in college, I suspect she was the same kind of 1500m runner as a Joyce Smith of Grete Waitz, could run respectable times through aerobic ability, but would have been better going longer.
Then how do you explain her 3:09 marathon at age 24? Undertrained? But Weitz was undertrained for her first marathon (no longer than 20km run), and she won NYCM. And how did she improve her time in her 50s? Improving her speed? Or improving her endurance?

At a guess, she ran it "for fun" just to complete the distance with no regard for time. She has improved her endurance, her speed would have declined from the 1500m times she ran in her 20s but she still has enough speed that 20 minute 5k splits for a marathon doesn't feel fast. She can run 3:33/km pace in a workout, making 4:00/km pace or just over doable for a marathon.

So 2.42 at 70? All quite "doable" at this rate.
Good read, thanks. The impetus to improvement later in life being children grown up and working part time allowing more time for training, recovery. Building mileage from 60 a week to over 100, lots of racing and marathons. Training in "cushioned" 4% shoes and racing in Next %. World age record of 37:57 for 10000m equally impressive.
AWESOME!
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?

What is the most stupid running advice you've ever heard?🤣(It can be funny)
