I'm a female college runner. This only seems to happen to me after racing the 800-Mile. It doesn't matter whether I raced well or poorly–A few minutes after the race ends, I get hit with terrible cramps that feel like I'm being stabbed in the uterus. I am not a wimp: I've raced with the stomach flu and run with all kinds of injuries. But these cramps are so bad they make me nauseous and I often can't get off the ground. The only respite is to lie down and wait for them to wear off, or take an Advil and wait for it to kick in. I can't find any similar experiences online, and no one on my high school team had the same problem. Everything I look up suggests gastrointestinal issues, but I've had my share of "ate a Fiber One bar before running" and "first 5 mile run after being injured" deals and these post-race cramps are completely different.
I've also noticed they only happen when I'm racing in the week before my period is supposed to come, but they're totally separate from normal period cramps which have always been mild and haven't happened at the same time. As loathe as I am to take an Advil before racing, if I remember it's a "risky" week for me I'll take one and can avoid the cramps, but I have literally never heard of anyone having a similar problem so let me know– am I alone?
