One of these days I need to learn more about our founding, I guess. I'm extremely under-informed on the subject (my fault), but over the years I've repeatedly heard about how they were very much afraid of tyrants and such. If true, it's surprising and disappointing that they came up with such a relatively leaky system against a tyrant wanna-be.
Relatively ignorant folks like me had our first big lesson during impeachment, when we learned that if the President fully "owns" either chamber, he's largely above the law and/or any reasonable standard of behavior.
And before that, that ALL of those wise men left it to a future FREAKIN' DoJ MEMO as to whether or not a President was, for all intents and purposes, above the law !!!
