You're right - I should have written "train fast to run fast". Training hard (ie, pushing 9/10-10/10 efforts in workouts instead of keeping it at an 7.5-8 most of the time, maybe a 9 sometimes) isn't the best way to run fast. My point is that these runners aren't overtraining given their level, they're just pretty fast so their training will be fast as well.
The TT or Tempo poster either has a personal problem with Ole Miss or just doesn't understand training/xc times vs training paces or the fact that no one has raced in a while so their PRs from last year might not match up with their current fitness. At the end, only the coach knows exactly what's going on, and I'd say he's done a pretty good job given their limited recent results.
