I am 70 pounds overweight and ran this recently. I'm also in my 50s.
Ho much faster could I get if I lose 70 pounds? If I lose 50 pounds? Thanks.

Nice. thats fast given the circumstances.
You'd probably be under 7 if you lost 70 lbs. If you did it by running/training for the mile, maybe even faster.

Ok. I have been running for 2 months. Only about 10-12 miles per week. I want to increase that.
If you are 70 lbs heavy and new to running, you may want to be careful about adding mileage. It takes a good amount of bodily adaptation for a new runner who is not overweight. When you add the factors of weight and age, the tendons and ligaments may experience some strain of you aren't careful.
You may benefit from incorporating long brisk walks and (if possible) pool workouts as you ramp up fitness and lose weight. Good luck!

Lets have a fat guy run off. I'm 47 and weigh 255 right now. I think I could go sub 8 for a mile. A few years ago when I was 195 pounds, I ran a series of half marathons in 1:27, 1:30, 1:28, 1:26. The weight makes a massive difference.
You most likely will be increasing your training to lose weight and as you lose weight. I say that you will run 6:45 when you lose 70 pounds. You would run 7:30 right now if you could magically just take the 70 pounds off overnight.

I'm 55 and weigh 220. I'd have a hard time going sub 9:30 (treadmill) at the moment, but I just started running again after a 4 month layoff. But big plans for this year, and I hope to get under 8:00 by summer. Is under 7:00 possible ever again? Looks like I'd have to lose 50 pounds at least (which gets really difficult when you are old).
A common rule of thumb is 2 secs per pound per mile.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
