I don't get it...He is a big name in American running.
I don't get it...He is a big name in American running.
Because American running isn't big.
Because only 10k people know who he is.

He's clearly STILL a big name considering there's a thread about him all the time.
I think you need to be an attractive woman to have a big Insta follower number.

By this logic, Alan Webb is still a big name. (And he has only 4500 insta followers.)
There is a world outside of this board, and they have already moved on to the next thing.
Because he has no real personality and looks like an old 12 year old.
Who needs a personality when your running speaks for itself? I've never seen any hint of "personality" from Kenny B or Kipchoge yet they have many instagram followers.

Because Gen X and Millennials, his contemporaries most familiar with his accomplishments, are moving off of SM like Instagram. They're tired of being manipulated by algorithms and don't confuse popularity with value.

No shade to Ritz (im from his era) but why exactly would one follow him today?
If Instagram had come about in the early ‘00s, during his rise, he’d have hundreds of thousands. But not the world we live in.
Because i dont use instagram to follow old runners lol
respect ritz but i dont care about what he instas

Their running is light years ahead of Ritz. Also they are not retired.
His running no longer speaks.
"Light-years?" .... as if Ritz is a slouch. Don't forget that he was finish 3rd behind Kenny B at World Junior XC.

Who today on Instagram really remembers that? Or cares?
Instagram is mainly used for young females to sell their soft core porn.

An article a few years back said that he had the physique of a 12 year old girl and his leg muscles were like "hammered white leather".
For real.

If 2010 feels like "a few years ago" you must be really old. ;)
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
