Bio: I am a freshman XC runner, and am looking to improve my 5K time. I PR'd off about 25 mpw with a 21:46 about halfway through the season, before a minor injury cut my season short. I want to run a sub 19 minute 5K next season, and I have 20 weeks left until summer XC practices start. With about 10 weeks of this, I potentially have 30 weeks to train before the first race. For the past couple of months I have been building from 20 miles (due to injury, I wanted to start slow) up to 30 miles. However, I wanted to reach 40 miles, but got bored from only easy miles. Due to lack of motivation, I haven't run for the past week. I am looking to prove everyone wrong, because nobody thinks I can run sub 19.
Current PR's
1. 5K - 21:46 (XC season freshman year PR - mid September, I do remember my 2 mile marker was 13:54)
2. 1600m - 6:35.4 (11/9/21 time trial, without any prior speed training)
Can anyone give me an outline of what to do for the NEXT 20 WEEKS? I've been told increasing mileage from 20-50, and also adding speed training? I can run for about an hour at most every day after school. On the weekends, I can run as much as possible, but obviously I don't want to get injured. Thanks in advance!
