start a property tax revolt next time the school asks for money, and back off only if they promise to let you use the track.

i drive ten minutes to a track and then do 400m sessions around a grass track with my club on a football field marked with cones and done with a wheel.
The track is crazy busy and super aggressive, which is fine for the proper athletes at the club; we can all live together.

I live 45 minutes away from the nearest open track, unless l want to jump the fence at a high school 20 minutes away and get in trouble. I find it much easier to go to Lows and purchase a wheel, and mark off workouts on the road, infact it's better since l race on the road, not the track. So if l have to do, for instance a session of 12x 400, l just measure 400 meters out, with every 100 marked. Anyone else do this. It's crazy to drive 45 minutes to a track in traffic, if I can just wheel out a course myself on a surface of my choice.
It's not accurate. The wobbles add up. You're probably only measuring 389.213 yards.

It depends on the surface. It can be accurate, actually that is the old way course we're measured and a lot still are. If you're careful and slow a wheel is fine and accurate.

You might have the worst language skills of an E1 speaker.
400m is just at 1,312 feet. Don't buy a wheel, just step it off by placing your heel to toe 1,312 times like when you walked off your long jump steps in middle school. Then add like 1/2 of your foot to the end

Did you get picked on in school? Did people lock you in the bathroom at school? I see why loser.
Because running on a track is not just about knowing the distance you're running. The fact that you can finish and start at the same point is a big logistical advantage. Apart from the psychological factor of just being on a track, especially when others are using it, one tends to push themselves harder. Wind direction is also less important in a track, since mostly any headwind will be tailwind on the opposite direction. I'm glad you found a practical solution for not driving 45 minutes to a track, but it is not at all crazy to do so.
