track is to far away wrote:
I live 45 minutes away from the nearest open track, unless l want to jump the fence at a high school 20 minutes away and get in trouble. I find it much easier to go to Lows and purchase a wheel, and mark off workouts on the road, infact it's better since l race on the road, not the track. So if l have to do, for instance a session of 12x 400, l just measure 400 meters out, with every 100 marked. Anyone else do this. It's crazy to drive 45 minutes to a track in traffic, if I can just wheel out a course myself on a surface of my choice.
I haven't done this, but it makes sense. I know some approximate distances based on looking at GPS distance on numerous runs. I have a great loop that measures ~0.83 mi. for intrevals, and I know the approximate distances between many landmarks (mail boxes) on the loop. That's close enough for my purposes. No need to buy a wheel. I use this loop if my go-to track turns out to be occupied unexpectedly.
I doubt many people live that far from a track though. In a 15 minute warm-up running radius, I have 5 tracks that I could go to. In a 20 minute driving radius, there are more than 15 tracks that I could go to. If you extend the radius to 45 minutes driving, there would be dozens of tracks that you could choose from. I live in a somewhat rural area with some suburb-like areas.
