It ain't legit if the GOAT Kilian isn't in it, or the 17 Norwegian club runners who beat him, or the women and children who have faster PRs than him.

This is why Big Jim is the best Track and Field athlete ever. He ain't afraid of the big dogs. Expect another World Record from Big Jim this January.
Thanks to Tyler Andrews for the amazing work he does to put these events on.
Tylers a Wanna be, just like the rest of the dreamers on the hoka modified team.
What happened to Nike sponsorship?
They spelled sage’s name wrong.
The OP forgot or didn't know that there is also a 2nd Hoka 100k event at the same time in Japan with Yoshiki Otsuka a 6:42 Hoka athlete.
To celebrate the launch of this newest innovation, HOKA announces Project Carbon X 2: an attempt to break the 100K world record by HOKA athletes around the world wearing the Carbon X 2. Headlined by HOKA US athletes Jim Walmsley and Camille Herron; HOKA EMEA athletes Elov Olsson and Caitriona Jennings; and HOKA Japan athletes Aiko Kanematsu and Yoshiki Otsuka, over three dozen HOKA global athletes will successively attempt the record from Chiba, Japan and the Phoenix, Arizona area at 7AM JST and 7AM MST, respectively, on January 23, with Olsson and Jennings joining the US athletes in Arizona. The U.S. event will be livestreamed for free at hokaoneone.com and the Japan event will be livestreamed for free at hokaoneone.jp. The current men's 100K world record is 6:09:14 – 5 minutes, 56.5 seconds-per-mile pace for 62.2 miles – set by Japan's Nao Kazami in 2018; the women's mark is 6:33:11, set by Japan's Tomoe Abe in 2000.
Who did Nike Trail drop?
They should add Florian Neuschwander from germany. But I don't know if he would be allowed to fly right now.

None of those women will get within 35 to 40 minutes of the WR, Camille is the fastest but way to slow to get anywhere near the Japanese woman’s record. To run 6:33 you would have to be a 2:25 ish current marathoner most of those ladies struggle to break 2:50
I don’t see Jim doing it but he may have a sniff with correct pacing.
Agreed none of these women will get near the 6:33 women's world record. They might have a shot at Ann Trason's 7:00 American record but I'd even bet against that.
Dreamers? Pretty sure they don’t need to dream anymore. You probably still need to dream though.

He did 4:50 for 50 miles in warm conditions, so I doubt adding a few 9:30 miles would be a problem.
Actually it was a problem. He couldn't finish that 100k then while the Japanese World Champion had another stellar performance on that day.
Imagine if Cheptegei decided he was going after the 8k WR during a Valencia 10k and just jogged the rest of the way in

It would take about 6 or 7 minutes. Jogging over 12 miles takes a bit longer.
I see the usual nobody no talent hacks are clogging up the thread.
think it'll be very interesting to see what the pacing strategies for this look like. No way the majority of the people in the race are actually shooting for the WR. Presumably there'll be national record groups too?
I know Sage and Camille are on the boards - can you say anything about the pacing strategies (or add any other commentary)?
No Alice Wright? Her 31min 10k sets up for sub 6:30 here. Is she ducking Camille?
Sage will surely be a pacer i would imagine he is a 6:45 100k runner at best. Jim will be exciting but I don’t see a record I think Hayden can beat him. The women are too slow and it’s just stupid to call it a world record attempt.

Surely pacers are not allowed for such an event?
(unless they are on the same lap)
It’s a Hoka event so technically they are all a team and will probably work together to a degree. Whether or not this is in the spirit of the this type of event I don’t know. But it’s some assembly. You can’t stop one athlete from dropping out at 50km after perfect pacing but they obviously won’t be allowed to jump in after the start. I’m expecting the AR to go down for sure. Max King is the definition of any surface any distance but did he ever dedicate himself to ultra distance beyond 50km? I’m sure he could have beating his own record if he had. WR Jim will have to be on perfect form to take down the WR but it wouldn’t surprise me if he does or gets close. People don’t like it but nobody has run 50miles faster than him and he is untouchable at runnable 100mile trial ultras at the moment. Hawks, Hazen and Freriks and will push him and could beat him if he doesn’t bring his a-game though. Looking forward to it!
the event will include pacers that drop out along the way, but everyone will start together
Max King has run 6:27:41.
You guys have no idea how good that is.
Patrick Regan will have have a realistic shot at it and that would be the only guy I put my bets on.
Patrick has a 6:33:50 from the last Hoka 100k.
Jim Walmsley is horrible in pacing and he is a wuss when it comes to adversity. When it gets tough Jim is out. He is not a mentally strong runner. He is only good when everything goes according to plan and he is in the lead.
Looking forward to watch this.

What other race besides WSER is Jim untouchable at? Or is that the only 100 mile race considered runnable?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
