Damn, that is demoralizing. Very cool that he’s realizing his potential though. Very curious as to how long he’s been at it

How many miles did they run last year (2019)?
Was the marathon early this year or late?
Was the marathon a "virtual" or mass start race?
I assume this person runs the same weekly mileage every week? No build-up to high mileage with months of low mileage recovery?
Are most of the runs doubles. Do they do any long runs?
He's averaged about 80-85 miles a week for 3 years. 2019 was roughly 4500 again.
The marathon was a major marathon on a fast course.
Same mileage every week, basically. Same pace pretty much too.
Runs are in singles, and they do a long run that's slightly more than 20% of mileage.
For the other poster, it's hard to tell how many miles. I think I saw over 1000 on a couple of different pairs.

His potential is 85 miles per week at 6 minute pace in next%s
This doesn’t seems reasonable honestly. He is averaging 12+ miles a day at 15 seconds per mile faster than marathon pace? That is basically an all-out HM daily, 365 days a year for a 2:45 marathoner. His marathon PR must be really soft/old. There is 0 chance he couldn’t crack 2:40 with an easy day or two right now.

Thanks.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

It's not that old. It's from last year in the fall. I agree that this doesn't seem realistic, which is why I started this thread about him in the first place.
He's been doing this training for at least 3 years according to GPS data available, and that is his PR.
Would be interesting to know what his PR was before the shoes and if they helped him?

From what I can tell, he either did not run a marathon before these shoes came out or his PR was 2:46-2:48 without the shoes.
He is roughly 25 years old, if that's interesting to note for anybody.

Maybe it's not that crazy. If all he does it practice one thing, he's probably really good at it.
He's not actually training to get better, he's training to run a 2:40s marathon.
How old is this guy? What is his running background?
It sounds like he's overtraining; probably doesn't know what he's doing. I bet a coach could get him to ~2:25 within a training cycle or two.
The man must have the race-day mental toughness of baby
Is this him?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf7hL0XyS7E

Yeah, I'd agree. He could probably drop time by simply adding a workout every week. I just think he probably has some obsession with sub 6 minute pace that's hindering him.
I'd like to add that he has run several people I know off of the local trail by running directly in the middle of the pathway, and a cyclist alongside him. I won't say too much more because I'd like to protect his identity as much as possible.

Sounds like he's itching for an elbow in his ribs.

Yeah, no way this adds up. Must have walked the last 10k of the marathon to get that time.
This makes no sense. He averages 12 miles a day at sub 6 pace, which presumably includes some longer days and some shorter days, but he can only run a marathon in about 6:20 pace?
He must have not run a marathon in a long time, or that was a really hilly marathon, or something. There is no way somebody can do 75 mpw at 20+ second faster than marathon pace for an entire year and not fall apart.
Is this guy a 5000m runner maybe, and that marathon was just a long hard training run?
Thanks, Rizzo. wrote:

That video is pretty hilarious.

Clearly overtraining. In high school as a dumb bass who didn't know anything, all my easy running and tempo runs weren't that much different in pace. But finally I figured out via reading some on Letsrun about Wejo article why he sucked in college and about how slowly the Japanese and east Afircans will take their easy runs. I started jogging my easy days and guess what? I improved. The chap op is talking about should(if he's close to him) talk to him about going a lot easier on his easy days and wouldn't be surprised if he could PB by a good margin in the marathon.
