The idiocy and contradiction in this thread is that the OP and others treat Fauci as though he is the voice of God on Covid, whose pronouncements have to be absolute and unquestionable truths - even while thread after thread here disputes the science about the pandemic. So what is it? You'll accept what Fauci says if his messages are unvarying but not if he makes any change of tune during the course of the pandemic - or there is nothing Fauci and science can tell you because it is all a hoax?
Anyone with a wit of scientific understanding can grasp what Fauci has been saying over the last year - and it hasn't been that he is claiming to be the last word on the science of the pandemic but that we should follow what the science tells us. What the science tells us has been a journey towards understanding; we didn't simply open a book and have all the answers. Fauci is a messenger more than he is an author or originator. There are many other scientists who have been imparting their knowledge about the virus and how to combat it. Fauci has been but one voice, even if his has been one of the most prominent. He is part of a worldwide community of professionals - but not a cabal of conspirators - who have been seeking to understand Covid - and they - like us - have been learning along the way. There haven't been lies or deliberate attempts to mislead - even if they haven't always got it right every step of the way. The advice from the scientists has been pretty consistent - reduce the risk of community transmission through social distancing and masks. Pretty simple. Where it has been followed it has worked. I live in a country that is proof of that.
It has been the messages from the politicians that has been inconsistent - and in Trump's case riven with lies and even outright lunacy - like disinfectant "cures". The greater difficulty for Fauci has been to have to impart public health messages from within an administration that has not accepted those messages and has undermined them. Anyone with an ounce of political nous could also have seen the often impossible task he has had.
But as seen from outside the US, from another country that has successfully applied the principles that Fauci and so many other scientists have advocated, it has been baffling to see the attacks on your leading epidemiologist, whose primary motivation has been to try to save American lives. And lost lives are what many of you don't care about - or you would have done far more to counter the appalling and growing toll in your country.
The supreme irony is that while so many Americans reject science in favour of falsehood and conspiracy theories it has been the extraordinary skills and knowledge of your scientific community that has produced effective vaccines at unprecedented speed. Many of you will live to be grateful for that. If only there was a vaccine for ignorance - because that now appears to be your greater malady. Threads like this are a sad affirmation of that truth.
