It’s not a way to make money so much as a way to kill off and/or acquire independent mountains. People buy epic or ikon and then understandably won’t go to any mountains not on their pass. Small mountains struggle to make money and then eventually get bought up by vail or alterra. At some point, there won’t be independent alternatives and prices for the conglomerate passes will skyrocket
