They're trail shoes, they're not supposed to be pretty. I'm sure if you do Nike ID you can pick up the original frees in your favorite shade of pink.
Looks like a shoe that will make you 'more' likely to sprain your ankle on the trails, than 'less' likely. Still need to thin down the midsole.

I'm sure the first product reviews will recomend "light trail" use, like a gravel or dirt park trail; otherwise, yeah, ankle injuries dead ahead. I've been waiting to get the frees until either a) price drop or b) the Trails; i'm going to go have to drop my criteria now.
The tread on the trail free is more beefe. You cant relly tell from the picture. We saw them in May and they looked like a good shoe. The mid sole is still really thich in the heel but it is the 5.0. The pair we saw did look beter because the sole was grey and not white.
