I was curious to read the feeling of readers about that new record, and found your post. I can agree that what I say must be taken with a grain of salt, but I also can say all what you say must be taken not with a grain of salt, but like the ravings of a sick mind and a stupid slanderer.
Renato Canova NEVER had some athlete caught for doping, because NEVER some of his athletes used to dope, So, the explanation is very much easier than some conjecture of conspiracy ; nobody was positive because nobody doped, but it seems that the easier explanation for clean athletes can't be accepted by people with a very limited vision of the reality, sclaves of their wrong convinctions.
Instead to look at every result with the belly, we need to try to explain the reasons.
Why this year there was an explosion of records in long run races ?
Here we can find the REAL reasons :
1- All those records were achieved in an era with great stars, who had the opportunity to run against the current WR almost every time. Gebrselassie, Komen, Bekele and Shaheen in steeple were by far at different level from the other best runners, and in the years 1995 - 2007 meetings on track had big budget with the opportunity to have agreements with the managers of those champions about appearance, special bonuses in case of WR, and availability of good money for the rabbits. In many cases, the appearances were among 40,000 and 60,000 USD for trying a WR, and among 20,000 - 30,000 for the rabbits. This was the main reason of the WR in that period (Komen, Haile and Kenenisa in 5000m, Tergat, Haile and Kenenisa in 10,000m, Shaheen in steeple).
2- When all those "stars" eneded their career on the track (Kenenisa was the last in 2009), there were no other athletes with the talent and the possibility to attack some WR. At the same time, the economical situation became worst everywhere, and the budgets for the big meetings faced cuts year after year, so the organisers were not interested to invest big money in the events of long distances on track, because clearly an unknown Kenyan /Ethiopian running 26'50" or 12'55" doesn't produce any advantage for the image of the meeting.
3- Due to the continue reduction of money (and also of the number of meetings), step by step new talents who could have the potential for running again under 12'40" / 26'30" directly skipped the period dedicated to the track, moving immediately to road races.
4- Because for young runners moving directly to the full Marathon is a difficult and not correct process, the best talents started to look at HM as their main event.
5- Going to the WR of HM of Zersenay Tadese (58:23 with the last 11 km alone), we have to remember that his PB in 10000m was 26'37" (20" slower than Kenenisa), and we can easily argue that the young Kenenisa, if interested in HM, could run 40" - 45" faster than Tadese, with a possibility of 57'40" without any special shoe.
6- All the WR in HM were achieved in competitions with the leader remaining alone in the second half. This happened in the case of the "doped" 58:18 of Abraham Kiptum, and in the case of 58:01 of Kamworor, with the second arriving 1'15" behind.
7- Now, we have to analyze the 2020 season. Because of Covid, all the big meetings were cancelled, such as the marathons and the HM. The athletes were not allowed to travel for long time, in some case not able to train outside. The athletes had two options only : or to take a long period of rest, waiting for a better situation in the future, or trying few races (where it was possible), not looking at money (because there was no interesting money also in the few organized competitions) but at their PB, without using tactics for the final position.
This means that, where possible, some competition was organized as a "Trial Test", with specific personal rabbits with the only goal to run fast : for example, the competitions in US, with ALL the athletes looking at running fastest possible, not giving the priority to the position.
8- In the case of Valencia, we saw, for the first time, a group of 5 athletes pushing from the start, all together, in order to attack the current WR. In the race, there were not moments with tactical choices of slowing down, but the COMMON interest was to run fast (everybody, among the top 3, had in his mind the goal to win bettering the record, like never in the past).
9- We can add some advantage produced by the new shoes. However, the advantage is not so high like many can suppose : I think can be no more than 20", compared with the shoes old generation. For example, one my athlete of good talent but of sure not a "Star" like Jonathan Maiyo, ran in 2012 in 59'02", and other 3 times under 59'30" between 2009 and 2015, using shoes Mizuno with the sole of 17 millimeters. This means he could run, with the shoes of today, around 58'40", not faster.
At the end, no surprise, but for the first time the possibility to put together many of the best, with the same and only goal to run all the race at their max speed.
Again, to look at the final results only, without considering what there is around (pace, money, motivation, weather, shape...) is the biggest mistake people can do.
And in LR, this is a common mistake, clearly showing how very few people here know really what athletics of high level is.
