I’m biased as a Connecticut guy but here’s my take overall and on the CT side of this meet.
I think Sherry and puffer head to head for the first time in like 10 months will be good. Sherry was unquestionably better last year, but puffer has put down better track times this season. Im taking Sherry head to head, watching him race last year there was no question of who set the pace.
I think the ridgefield boys squad is insane this year. Not sure about the quality of other teams in the field and it’s 3 am so I’m too lazy to check, but I think if we had NXR they’d be throwing it down with CBA, La Salle, and Coe Brown for the nxn spots. I think they’re one of if not the best teams CT has ever had, excited for this.
Also want to see what walker beverly can do. Was just another hall runner last year, but has had a breakout season. Saw that he broke up conards top 3 at a dual meet. Not gonna be competing for the win but could have a good day. Look for him to be in the chase pack with the likes of Nick Bendsten and Callum Sherry. Namiot should be in that mix as well and has put down good stuff this season.
CT boys prediction in order:
Gavin
Puffer
Bendsten/Namiot (toss up)
Beverly
Callum
King
Deangelo
Davidson
Also Saranac Lake boys from New York (called Red Storm Runners) is another team to watch. They haven’t raced against any NY teams this year, but they potentially would have qualified for NXN out of NY, or maybe even won that region.
They placed 5th at NXR NY last year and returned everyone. I also heard Saranac is a tiny school, so it will make it more interesting.
It’s a down year for FM boys this year but they aren’t running in this race. A lot of guys who were varsity last year didn’t return, but this is a perfect year for a rebuilding year. Geehrer is the only boy from that team running in this race but he’s the only senior boy on the team, which bodes well for next year.

What is the course?
1 Kate Wiser Pomperaug-CT 16:46.8
2 Brooke Rauber Tully-NY 17:00.3
3 Sydney Masciarelli Northbridge-MA 17:20.1
4 Chloe Scrimgeour West Hartford-CT 17:43.7
5 Karrilynn Baloga New Windsor-NY 17:49.3
Impressive win for Wiser on a windy soggy course.
Can't be a great result for Masciarelli after being national champ 2 years ago.

People were singing her praises then, but she has not progressed. 16:46 does seem like a nice time on that course.
Take this with a grain of salt, but Puffer has COVID.
Kate Wiser, on the other hand, certainly appears that she has progressed.

Top 10 at FLN last year, but maybe ~30 seconds faster now it seems.
It looks like she was ready to contend for the win at FLN this year.
Last year:
1 -- 16:45
7 -- 17:19. Masciarelli
9 -- 17:35 Wiser
11 - 17:40 Baloga
She is headed for Notre Dame:

164 SR for Wiser

Saranac Lake ended up 4th, a close 3rd among the NY teams behind Saratoga and Liverpool. I'm sure Saranac was hurt more by the Covid restrictions; while Saratoga and Liverpool at least had some meaningful dual-meet competition, SL had nothing all season. I think a couple of their guys made it down to one of the club races. It's really a shame, because a school as small as SL has maybe a once-in-a-century shot at being the top team in NY. They really got screwed: no season, no chance for NXN, nothing.
It's tough to read much into this season's speed-ratings, but FM's cupboard looks pretty bare. They're going to return only one guy who's run much over a 150 SR this season. But agreed, this is a great year for rebuilding. If nothing else, their girls were spared being bludgeoned by Saratoga.
Wiser and Sherry are both supposed to run next week at Holmdel which should give a good perspective on how fast they are.

That’s debatable at best. Ridgefield lost to Liverpool in the champ race (barely beat them in the merge) and barely beat a couple of other NY teams. Also only 3 guys above 160 speed rating. NY is not very strong this year on the boys side. I also don’t think there would be a second at-large from the Northeast.

Xavier (CT) from 2017 was pretty solid. They won NXR in 2017.

Anyone know how much longer Aris will be coaching for? I don’t think they will be a perennial powerhouse they’ve been when he’s gone.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
