Looking forward to reading it.
We have so many athletes going to Kenya and sharing their experiences and training videos with the world and yet, so little from Ethiopia.
Looking forward to it for a while. He's written some short pieces on Ethiopian running including for letsrun
Just finished this -- really a remarkable book. I feel it gave a great deal of insight, and from perspective of deep humility and genuine desire to learn.
Unlike some other "running with X" books, the author is more interested in the culture and success of the people he is running with, rather than his own. No "first muzungu" or "coach told me to run 5:54 but I just had to run 5:48" moments.
Fifteen months in Ethiopia is quite a stretch of time, and you get a real sense of the other runners and coaches as experts, teammates, and people.
Cheers, will give it a read.
Sounds promising
I've read it. It's great. It's based on a Anthropology PHD, so the content stacks up. Unlike some Kenyan running books by journalists trying to make everything thread into a story, too much that real runners spot inconsistencies.

Agreed. I think I'll actually read this one.
Really nice book. Read it. It's amazing how deep and organised the sport is out there. You feel sorry for all those guys who 'roll the dice' on a career which is pretty unlikely to pay off, but the training is amazing.
And for the Brits, as a little bonus, it fills in the story on all those Eritreans who defected in Scotland and popped up on the UK scene 15 years ago. Intriguing suggestion that maybe they were one factor in the rise of Scottish running lately!
Nice!
Cant wait to read it.
Cool to see this now featured on the LRC front page, complete with insightful review and an excerpt.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
