How can you postpone a whole city?
The BAA did not announce a new date but is looking at dates in the fall of 2021 and hopes to have an announcement about that by the end of 2020.

Why even keep it in Boston then? Run it somewhere less congested.

The email I received said postponed until at least the fall. The BAA is hopeful to announce the new date by the end of this year.
I don't get this. We're nearly 6 months away from Boston.
What's the point of postponing it if you're not going to announce a new date. You could easily pick some random fall date now for 2021. How is waiting until December going to help you make that decision. If you're ready to postpone, come up with a new date now imo.

People are dying daily from a pandemic. Sorry about your inability to run Boston. Do your part and get used to not racing until we have a competent leader.
People die daily from running and I’m not worried. Why would I worry about covid?
More #BostonWeak
Illinois marathon on May 1 has suspended entries now.
Two recommendations:
1) races need to look at the Honolulu marathon Covid plan - quite well thought out and doable
2) local officials need to grow a set of balls
Doesn’t Boston marathon bring in $60 million annually to the local economy?
Illinois marathon brings in $5 million during its weekend.
These cities and many many others are going to go Bankrupt if these local idiots included these monies in their annual budgets.

Well maybe they’re waiting to see if your P.O.S. POTUS was telling the truth when he said a vaccine is right around the corner.....
Our head infectious disease expert in Canada said after a vaccine comes out, things will start to go back to normal A YEAR LATER.

The World Marathon Majors will need to negotiate a schedule amongst themselves. All the races will want prestige athletes and they also do not wish to have two events on the same Sunday. I suspect that we will see a WMM race every two weeks from mid-September to mid-November...COVID permitting.
If they're not ready to race in Spring 2021, I doubt they'll race in the Fall. I see no reason things will improve substantially by Fall as compared to the Spring. In my opinion, they should hold a race with accommodations as needed to make things "safe." However, I heard that the state of Massachusetts has banned ALL road races for the time being.
I don’t know if they told you but Honolulu was cancelled. Get a grip

We will be getting a competent leader. Get ready to hide in a hole.

They had the Mayors Cup last weekend.
Yes I know. I didn’t say it wasn’t.
The put out a very good plan that other races should follow.
Correct on all road races banned in MA until Phase IV which means a vaccine. Here's the source:
https://www.mass.gov/info-details/safety-standards-and-checklist-indoor-and-outdoor-events
This is why the BAA can't provide a date. They are waiting on the release of a viable vaccine and will add a year to that. Even if the BAA tried to establish safety protocols, the road race ban in MA won't allow them to have a race.
Before the end of the year means they will either announce a late fall or early winter 2021 date because a vaccine was released or announce postponed until at least spring of 2022. Notice that the announcement referenced the race as the 125th Boston Marathon and NOT the 2021 Boston Marathon. My hypothesis is they want the 125th to be an in-person event and will postpone until that can happen.

Don't be thick. They're actually using a panel of experts/relying on science to make their decisions. I know that might be hard for you & others on here to grasp thus you want to question their decision.
I doubt they are feeling confident that a fall race can even happen. I understand the economic impact of this race & how the pandemic is affecting everyday people, but an international marathon like Boston cannot happen until there's a vaccine. They're going to wait, keep their fingers crossed, and keep postponing until that happens. It's the right decision. Maybe spring of 2022 is when we get major marathons back. Find local races that are still on if you're itching to race. Boston isn't going to make a decision to appease a handful of you who have been listening to Trump & don't want to take this thing seriously -- they're going to do what's best for the general public in terms of health and safety.
How does this effect smaller, local fall marathons where hobby joggers typically set their BQ time at? I have a feeling hobby joggers are going to be happy to spend the nearly $2k total (registration, flight, hotel, meals, etc) on Boston rather than keeping their $ local. Will this kill any already set local fall marathons?

Parts of Europe back into strict lockdowns. I thought their science-following leaders had this thing all figured out? Is this still a 'only the US is incompetent' problem?
