I just wanna run wrote:
Just had our first snowfall this week. Roads are okay for running for now. But what are things that i can do to stay in shape without doing a lot of running? I have been running about 50-70mpw for the last 3-5 month. It really gets bad here between January-march in my State. Roads will be difficult to run on and most gyms are closed at this point.
any help is appreciated!
Do they not plow or salt the roads in your state? I imagine that they do. Just run outside with appropriate layers on. Buy some Yaktrax to slip on your shoes when the roads are icy. Quality work? Shovel out lane one of your local high school track or, if live in a town with one, you can get a combination of reps/hill work inside of a parking deck. Growing up in the Midwest, we did a lot of winter work in parking decks - dry, good footing, shelter from the weather, the added benefit of vertical gain within repetitions.
