What does that even mean?
It means Jim is a racist on a level that is rarely seen even on this board.

Why you need anything for self defense?
In normal modern societies you would think there is no need for self defense.
That latter sentence may the dumbest comment ever posted on this board. And this is a board where people and pro-looting and deny Covid exists. Congrats!
Its true. In modern democratic societies there shouldn't be a need to carry weapons. If there are then something is wrong
Yeah well, show me the evidence where that's what happens. I didn't know allowing people to have guns is what causes violent behavior.

I know most of letsrun don't have girlfriend/wives, but tell that to your SO next time she brings up buying a weapon to protect herself, or himself for that matter.
Even in a perfectly built society, violent and sociopathic - you know, people that would resort to raping, or robbing, or murdering or kidnapping others -people are still going to exist, and people should be allowed to protect themselves. Sorry, but you're honestly living in fairy land with this take.
In northeast Ireland --- the IRA. They just don't do freedom fighting --- they keep jerks in line and doesn't matter what religion they are. People who take advantage of innocent people are taken care of.
In America our police forces are so good that citizens feel justice will be done if they are assaulted -- such as arrest and prosecution.
Tennis racket
Since there are very few guns around in such places, they certainly don't need to f*ck up the whole society by acquiring illegal firearms.
Perhaps they feed their enemies double bacon cheeseburgers... take 'em out slowly.

I think you know what it means.
If not, allow me to introduce you to White supremacy.

These are the same white virtue signallers who want to defund the police, open the borders, and btw., scream racist here at anyone who says Kenya has a doping problem.
They have no clue what life is like for a white or black person living in a bad neighbourhood.
I grew up and live now in what you would call a “bad neighborhood.” You have no clue what you’re talking about, as per usual.
As someone living in Northeast Ireland (please don't turn this into a debate about the constitutional status), support for the IRA and other paramilitaries is tiny. Almost everyone in the country recognises that we have moved past the stage of armed struggle, and the paramilitaries are now just organised crime groups.
I assume you're referring to 'punishment shootings' dealt out to drug dealers etc - the most common occurances you hear about are actually from the INLA, not the IRA. This is a newer group which didn't even exist during the 'freedom fighter' stage before republicans started taking a more earnest approach politically. Loyalist paramilitaries like the UDA/UVF also commit the same sorts of crimes - it is not just on one side of the divide.
While in the past the paramilitaries may have been able to justify their actions as fighting against (or for) the British state, these days they only make our country a less safe place to live, by trying to cling to a remnant of that past. Trust in the police service is reasonably good, and they do a much better job of 'keeping people in line' without resorting to shooting them in the knees.

Been married for 7 years, she has never once "brought up buying a weapon to protect herself". Yes, there are bad people, but adding weapons to the mix is not going to make things better....
My spouse is active military (as I once was a long time ago), trained to use firearms as I was. We have travelled extensively, and apart from my service in areas of active conflict (where locals were packing) I’ve never once stopped and thought to myself “I would feel so much safer right now with a gun,” and my spouse has never voiced such an opinion.
Of course, I’m not American, and this urge to carry a gun seems to be something cultivated in the American culture. I’ve never seen that anywhere else. Well, ok maybe once, on a visit to Bosnia where we were accompanied by a security detail that scared me more than anyone else we saw.
We use our handbags.
What use is a gun if someone has a gun on you already. In UK you can at least leg it which is always the best form of self defence anyway
we had an armed police bodyguard in Egypt a few years ago.
Submachine gun concealed beneath his suit jacket like the RR shooting.
Funny thing was he got into an argument with some idiot, who punched him in the face. Right by the Sphinx this was.
he never even showed his gun.
This is a freaking running forum. Of course you just run!
Out of my 37 years I've spent about 35 in countries where guns are more or less outlawed and didn't have any need to defend myself once, not in the US either. I kind of see law enforcement as the biggest threat that I can encounter (wild and stray animals being a distant second), and fighting back against police is usually a bad idea anyway.
Sometimes it would seem that the world where criminals assault people in the streets taking their money and valuables, raping women and killing/injuring their victims is just some fantasy like Batman origin story. Never happens to anyone you know irl, always some random strangers giving those 'bad neighborhoods' their reputation.

In 24 years of marriage, my wife has never once brought up "buying a weapon to protect herself".

It's just a race to the bottom in this thread I see.

Same for cancer or hiv, right?
