I feel like a 13:02/27:54 athlete doesn't run 35:05 on just a 'bad race'. you have a bad race and run 30:30. Either you have a serious injury here or you walked a fair portion.
I know some people have said it was a session but none of the splits up to 7K support that. I also don't understand why he didn't just DNF, instead choosing to come home in 4:42/km?...
They report says he was with the leaders at 7k. Lets call it 20 mins. So he ran the last 3k in 15 mins. That is pretty much jogging.

The official results have him DNF with a 6:22 8k and a 4:10 9th km. That sounds like a lot like some type of leg cramp/side stitch where you spend a couple mins trying to work it out, jog back to where everyone is and then bail to get some treatment.
