All it takes is the secretary of one physio who sees one athlete to test positive. Then that athlete goes breathing hard right up in close proximity to their teammates for 2 hrs (warmup, workout, cooldown).
Tbh, I get it too - if someone got infected at the ekiden, BTC would look stupid if they travelled across the country after knowing there had been exposure. Not worth the risk, especially for just a for-fun ekiden.
