My objective is to run the USA Olympic standard for the 800m; I want to make the team.
I'm 6'3 at 170lbs. I can run a sub 11 100m, sub 22 200m, and sub 50 400m.
Since I'm new to middle distance running I get a lot of my workouts and running ideology from "The Complete Middle Distance Runner" with Dennis Watts, Harry Wilson and Frank Horwill.
since covid I've been doing only aerobic runs and weight lifting. my last steady run was 5miles at 6'05" with a average heart rate at 175bpm,(with an added 4 miles, 2 to the workout and 2 to get back home). My weight room sessions are heavy deadlifts, heavy squats and a bench press. short reps and long recovery.
I train alone so if anyone could recommend any books, articles or podcasts I'd really appreciate it. thanks guys.
I seriously hope this is a troll post. Sub 11/22 are extremely good sprint times, why do you want to run the 800m and why do you think you have Olympic standard potential there?
Symmonds said he was never able to run a 11 FAT when he was in his best shape in the life (someone like Rudisha can probably do it, but most elite 800m runners can't out of the blocks), but he would cruise these steady runs at 5:20 pace.
At your level, sub 11/22 you should already have a great coach. If you achieved these times by yourself, and are still young, get a sprint coach and you might have a real shot at an Olympic standard.
Sub 11/22 but then only sub 50 also shows that your times are dropping off already from 200 to 400m, so the 800m would be even worse. Also you ran sub 11/22 with a ridiculously low BMI for such a high level sprinter, imagine what you could run with more power and muscle strength.
