We’ve always done core and ancillary training after our runs or after our workouts.
Problem is that practice tends to drag when we do it that way.
Since we’ve been back to school, distance learning style, our school day has been starting at 9:30, so I’ve encouraged my kids to run early.
This week, we’ve been able to get back out and actually work out as a team, so I told them we’re going at 7:00 AM. Because of this, we haven’t had time to goof around as much. We moved our core and general athleticism development stuff to before the main body of the workout today. It took us probably 35 minutes to go through all of it and by the time we were starting the main body of the session, kids were like, “my legs are dead already”
Then a funny thing happened. Every single kid hit every single split they were supposed to. I’ve never had that happen before. Granted, the main body was fairly easy because most of my kids have missed much of the last 3 weeks with air quality issues around here due to the fires.
I was shocked though because I expected a serious adjustment period to get used to the new routine.
