I Guess I was wrong jakob can def run under 12:55, but I expected Kiplimo to outkick jakob he has a crazy kick for a 5/10k guy.

Nice win for Reekie after her recent loss.
Duplantis 6.15
What a Swede
Nice tactical win for Reekie, beating Hynne and Muir.

Showed why she'll be a threat to win gold in Tokyo. She can really close in a tactical 800.
Mando WR!
Exactly what I was thinking kiplimo's victory is more impressive a 1500/5k guy getting beat in 3000m by a 5k/10k is crazy. Kiplimo is at least 5 sec faster over 5k, and can beat him in a slow or fast race with that kick.
Mondo WR!!

Yes, EXCELLENT pacing job by Sean Tobin! Bang on 4 flat
Best pacing job was McSweyn for keeping the pace rolling when they could have all hit the brakes

Are you forgetting the WR holder Cheptegei? Kiplimo is only the #2 Ugandan.

I didn't think it was crazy. I didn't post in time but I figured Kiplimo would probably win in a kick. There's no reason to think Kiplimo doesn't have speed and a 3k is long enough for distance runners to win.
Thompson 10.85, there seems to be an audio delay on NBC.
This is the most impressive PR from Jakob so far. We have seen athletes of Caucasian descent run under 3.30 for 1500m but prior to tonight there was only one who had run under 7.30 for 3000m and that was Viscosia, who to be perfectly honest was juiced to his eyeballs in the midst of that epic Spanish distance running doping regime that was in full steam between 1992 and 2000.
But either way, it's astonishing that the only nationalities on the list of sub 7.30'ers was limited to the following: Kenya, Ethiopian, Moroccan, Algerian with 1 Belgian (of Moroccan descent), 1 American (of Kenyan descent) and one Spaniard.
So to do this at the age of 20, and seriously - doping or not is irrelevant because we can assume many on that list were doping anyways, this is outstanding
This also puts in perspective the run by McSweyn which is also epic

Don't think it's crazy at all to beat Jakob by a hair in the 3000...by one of the fastest 5000 runners of all time. Jakob's season is on the down swing, while Jacob is still coming off that hot run recently.
What we've seen so far, I don't think anyone is beating Jakob by over 5 sec in the 5000. Jacob may be 1-2 seconds better.
Well its not crazy but its not the norm, on paper a 1500m/5k guy has a clear advantage over a 5k/10k guy in a 3000m.

Here are your splits for the 3,000. I would not say Kiplimo has too much time to knock off his 7:26 in his current form. That penultimate lap of a slightly slower than the rest was probably captured in the kick. Cheptegei in a fast-paced 3,000 would be fun to see. All of these guys are on the younger side and improving so with more 3,000s in the DL Barega, Jakob, Kiplimo, Kejelcha should be breaking into the sub-7:25 club soon hopefully.

Than freaking Hill ran 7:30. Jakob being able to run 7:27 in a perfectly paced race is not the least bit surprising.

Simbine wins 9.96, but Tortu and Cisse have been consistent this season.

Hahahahahahaha. This is a very good point.
I'd say Mottram's 8:03.5 two mile race is at right about on par with McSweyn's 7:28, although Mottram never recorded an official sub-7:30 race. I think peak Mottram (if he were dropped into today's race) would have been a little faster than McSweyn... but Stewy is definitely putting up some impressive performances!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
