Yes, EXCELLENT pacing job by Sean Tobin! Bang on 4 flat

Yes, I’m saying number of performances. They both entered the top10 all time for individuals
Tobin's PBs of 3:41.87/3:57.00/7:59/13:56.
Give this man a race/time trial. He could maybe scare the 7:40s. Heck, have any of the top 3 pace him as part of a workout.
Kiplimo won but I'm still more impressed with Jakob. For him to race so much this year, focusing on the 1500, then still fast enough to run 7:27 is impressive. You can tell the race felt just a little long to him compared to what he's been running.
I still give Jakob the edge in a 5k next year in the Olympics against Kiplimo. Jakob will probably run the 1500 though.

It is the 8th & 9th fastest ever runners. Jacob & Jakob..
Just to add. They are both now faster than Alamirew, Kipchoge, Tergat, Kejelcha, and Choge.
What a great 3k! Tobin did a fantastic job pacing straight on 60s past the mile, then McSweyn actually was picking up the pace before just over 60 on his last lap in the lead, then Ingebrigtsen picked it up and Kiplimo was able to shorten up and quicken his turnover and caught him and went well ahead. Ingebrigtsen was unable to get a higher sprint turnover, but in the end this was tremendous, 7:26.64 for Kiplimo, Ingebrigtsen with a huge pr and the best European legal 3k in 7:27.05 (Mourhit was popped for EPO), McSweyn with a tremendous 7:28 Area Record as well.
The temperature in Rome is currently 82 degrees (high 90 today), but Dewpoint is just 59 degrees, so not quite as bad as it seems. These are, I think, the best 3k's in a long time, maybe since Alamirew's 7:27 high? I expect to see some very fast 3k's next year between these guys, Barega, GWet, and of course the world record holder in the 5000m, Joshua Cheptegei.

Kiplimo's got some wheels! I thought he'd be finishing right with McSewyn in that sort of fast race. More bad news for Farah for his 10,000 prospects. Great run for Jakob, no shame in losing running 7:27. Ditto McSewyn who was brave throughout and rewarded.
great race but jakob can't seem to outkick anyone to win a race, hes young and his kick will come but if he wants to win in Tokyo he will have to work on that . great run nonetheless

And more to come. Duplantis the flying Swede will as always do something
Agreeeed. Warholm was fantastic but the WR will have to wait.
The 3k was amazing. McSweyn basically rabbited 2600m for two runners who just had a little more than he did. I'm not sure when we had a 3k this fast but it feels like it has been a while. I feel like Mo won a ton "slow" 3k's throughout the 2010s in 7:35-7:40.
Speaking of Mo, Jacob looked Farah-esque controlling the last lap, measuring out his kick. When Kiplimo rolled up on him the first time, he was able to push a little more but it wasn't enough. Kiplimo is really, really good.
I thought Jakob had it when kiplimo tried to pass on the inside and couldn’t, so had to drop back a bit to pass on the outside, but he had so much left that it really wasn’t an issue

This might be one of the worst takes I've ever seen. The 5k/10k outkicked the 1500/5000 guy in a 3k while coming from behing and you now say you think the 1500/5k guy will beat him if they race at 5k?
STEWWWWYYYYYYYYYYYY
Yep, same. I thought he would just hold on after that but Kiplimo somehow had another gear.
Looks like Jakob and McSweyn are definitely in sub 13 shape now. I expect they will both give it a shot in the near future
Jakob said on Norwegian TV that he was happy running sub 7.30. He felt heavy today.
This race was another step in the right direction to constantly improve.
Selfishly wish McSweyn hadn’t run that fast 1500 on Tuesday. Otherwise I think he’s right there at the finish

His kick at 1,500 isn't bad. Remember he put McSewyn and Wightman in the dust in the 1500 races that had Tim. When he runs up against the very strong athletes in the 3,000 and 5,000 I feel like he runs into some trouble at the end when they uncork a very quick last 100.
He is not a "shifter" and is not going to win the way Coe or Manangoi did. His best move is to wind it up the last 300 and run a pace that only Cheruiyot can keep up with.

Yeah the only way I could see this take working is if Jakob was a big turn-of-speed finisher. He's just not. It's hard to see him coming out on top against Kiplimo who has shown he can switch gears the last 200 and is capable of huge times at 5,000/10,000

Fastest since 2007 (Bekele 7:25.79).
How close to Komen’s WR can Kiplimo run? He seemed to have plenty left over the last 200m so I imagine he could run a bit faster.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
