In a Norwegian podcast episode from "Stavrum & Eikeland", released today, the reporter asked the following question:
I:"How fast do you think he (Jakob) will run in the 1500m?"
G:"3.25"
I;"3.25?"
G:"Mhm"
I:"Then are we talking about the world record"
G:"Mhm... I don't believe...(He stopped talking) I think he will run 3.25.
I:"That's the plan?"
G:"It's not the plan, but that I am completely convinced (that he will do)
I:"How long will that take?"
G:"Within the next few years, I assume he will be under the world record."
I:"Huh"
G:"Call it insanity, but if you are not willing to see that borders exist to be moved, you have to do something else. He (Jakob) thinks so. And I think so.
Gjert thinks Jakob will run 3:25

The sky is the limit.
-
Yep.
It might be possible.
We must also remember that Norwegian Vebjørn Rodal (1996 Atlanta Olympic 800 meter Champion) had a goal of 1:39:99 for his distance, but could not pull it off at all, so Norwegians are known for setting high goals.
Looking back at it, I believe Jakob is closer by talent to achieve the goal time though. -
Of course this will never happen. The father admits it himself if you pay attention. Jakob will NEVER hold the world record as the only way Jakob could run 3:25 is if there are more magical aids in which case the others will also be faster.

OK so that is your best argument. I have already won the debate. -

Better shoes and better tracks. El G would have ran 3:24.0 today. Not because he was better than Jakob, but because he was doped to the max with EPO, roids, hgh etc. -

I need to respond to howratio not rational argument, but I cannot find the podcast, do you have a link? -
I think it is most likely Jakob will go under 3:26 in the next years.
Jakob is around 5 seconds faster than El-Guerrouj was at 19 so why shouldn´t Jakob at his peak run at least 1 seconds faster than El-G´s WR. -
The facts:
1) Was Jakob Ingebrigtsen conceived, born and raised at elevation greater than 5000 feet?
2) Does Jakob I. have a sub-2:15 1000m personal best?
3) Does Jakob I. have a sub-7:30 3000m P.B?
It will not occur. -

Jakob was born in an area with heavy snowfall. Trudging through heavy snow builds high aerobic capability
2) Does Jakob I. have a sub-2:15 1000m personal best?
Jakob has never run a 1000m. He may be under that.
3) Does Jakob I. have a sub-7:30 3000m P.B?
Let's get back to this one in two days.

Lura. Heavy snowfall. That's a bit of a WeirdChamp tbh. -
Father knows best!
Based on his 1:46 this season I thought his max would be low 3:30, then he went 3:28.
He’s got WR potential. -
Seriously, if a 19 year old running 3:28 can't break the world record, who can?
Not that I think it's a guarantee (or even likely) but there's no question it's in the realm of possibility. Time will tell whether Tim gets there first. -
He’ll run 3:25 if Tim runs 3:24.
11-0. Potato Tim eats Jakob for breakfast. -
Unfortunately Jakob will probably not break the WR at any point.
It seems likely to me that Cheruiyot will take it down to 3:25.5 or less. -
Lol, he needs to go less than 3 seconds faster.
Will the combination of these 3 things get him there:
-maturation
-cumulative training
-perfect conditions/pacing
The answer is yes. -

So, I just listened to the podcast and Gjert do say that Jakob will get the world record in "a pair of years" that literally means two years, but normally in Norwegian is interpreted like a few, but not many years, he also mentions 3:25 and that this is the goal for Jakob.
Next time I tell you GTFOOH.
Pay attention. -
It means a couple of years.
