The point is that it is a soft world record that I don't even believe is the world record. Any African could run that fast.

Do we know if his age is legit? Not just Kenyans with questionable paperwork.

As a rule of thumb every "child running prodigy" at a distance over 10k will burnout or get injured.
yep
every protege should train at 70%
and up the ante at age 19.

+1 And have you heard of Haile Gebrselassie and Eliud Kipchoge?
Hasay was not running over 10k as a child. She was a 1500 runner.
I think a lot of people love to smugly use the term "burn out" but what they mean is "plateau".
No. They mean burnout. Cain is nowhere near her HS times. Slagowski is nowhere near his HS times. Ping is slower now than in 7th grade.

I'm willing to bet that Dathan Ritz and Ryan Hall could have run sub 1:10 when they were 13-14 years old, they just suck with shorter distances.
Were either of them even running races at 13?
It is amusing that we always praise the kenyans for running as young kids. But if an american does it, it is a horrible idea... Obviously the question is what exactly is this kid doing? Getting 30-50 mins of running 4-5x week with maybe one session of fast stuff? Sounds like a great idea if the kid thinks it is fun. Running like 10 sessions/week with 3 hard interval sessions? Probably not a great idea.
If this is the correct course then it’s a very easy course to pull a “MR” type record.
Ever heard of the Garretson kids from the late 80's early 90s?
Great accomplishment. I hope he keeps pressing forward if he enjoys the challenge. Those prophesying burnout... whatever.
I really had hoped Jim Ryun would have scaled it back at 16 in order to pace himself. He must have been upset to break that world record when he wasn’t ready for it... I recommended he work on tempo runs and flutter kicks. Professionally, he really didn’t accomplish much after running either - ohh the pitty.
Those kids in Europe should settle down also so they can run quasi-pro when they are 30. They are going too fast and are too young. I’ll talk to their dad and cut their mileage back to 35 MPW so they can comply with the successful wealthy American running dogma. Maybe they can set their goals on the Patriot League Championships, 3rd team honors.
I hope the 13 year-old HM runner hears our dire concerns and focuses more on Fortnight development because we do NOT want our youth pursuing anything that may be risky or set them apart from their peers.

To be fair, she's not an exception to this rule.
What can this kid run for 3k..........that is what I am interested in.
Joshua Cheptegei ran 50-60 mpw from a young age. He has no issues running 4:01 pace for 5k.

I think the point is that we (Some of the posters) wish JC didn’t overextend himself as a youth so he could be running 14:56 with all of his peers.
Be cautious... Be safe... Don’t take chances or you might get hurt... That’s what I have been preaching to my kids. They are so thankful and they love their 9-5 desk job that pays $14.35 per hour. At least they get 2 paid vacation weeks per year... ‘Merican Dream, baby.
Frankly, I’m glad I only ran 25 miles per week for half the year in high school. When I split 4:59 in the T-Burg 4xMile Relay I knew my hard work paid off:). Safety first:))))

Jordan Hasay was racing distances of more than 10k as a child? This is news to... well, everyone.
Ever hear of Bryan Morseman ?
67 1/2M and 2:20 Full. So what? Thousands run faster.
Sounds bitter and jealous?why mad? mad you can't do it...
It's not about him being fast, its the consistency the devotion he puts in. Thats what matters no one gives two cents about a one hit wonder.....its the wait for , wait for it boom over and over that is what is impressive!
Read through the record books. One hits are there but not average guys who ran below the radar a bunch of years. Everyone remembers Billy Mills.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
