Rojo needs to apply and start recruiting an all Icelandic team for diversity reasons. They are under-represented in the NCAA.
No relatons to Gary Winthorpe.
Who's up next?
Steve Holman would be a good choice.
Culley had been at the helm of the program for the past four years, after serving in an assistant role with the program for two years prior.
During her tenure leading the teams, Culley boasted 50 All-America honors in more than 10 different events. She has also coached the Hoyas to 36 BIG EAST Championships and four wins at the Penn Relays.
Prior to taking over as director, Culley coached 10 student-athletes to 24 All-America honors in eight different events. As an assistant, Culley helped Georgetown win 14 total BIG EAST event titles and the Hoya women captured the team title at the 2014 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships.
The Georgetown women recorded a pair of top-10 national finishes during her stint as an assistant: a fourth-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships and a ninth-place showing at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Julie Culley is now in her fourth season at the helm of the Georgetown track & field / cross country program, following a two-year stint as an assistant coach. A United States Olympian coached by Georgetown Hall of Fame Coach Frank Gagliano, Culley won the women’s 5,000-meter run at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, earning a trip to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she was a finalist in her event.
Does anything about this bio scream out to you: I want to spend every Sunday watching 13 heats of the 200 for less than $200k?
This is probably for the best, Julie is a caring individual and for many they would be fortunate to have her as a coach, but I think she is better suited for somewhere where the expectations aren't as high as Georgetown. She'll probably pop back up somewhere else unless she decides to take time off to take care of her family.
Georgetown alum are hit or miss.
I work with one that is the future of a $10B company and I work with another that barely cares to show for work and is a bit frazzled all the time.
I guess that's people, but I never knew they were high expectations at Georgetown as they have never truly been competitive in the NCAA. I don't think the Women made XC and I think the men did in 2019.
They'll find a great coach. Lots of talent in the area and the area will attract great coaches.
The Georgetown women won XC in 2011. Not sure how this would qualify as “never truly been competitive.”

Whoa Boomer, 2011 is like prehistoric times. If G-town XC doesn't appear on my Instagram or Twitter feeds, then it didn't really happen.
Is there a back-story here? Or is Julie leaving on her own terms?
Just Curious...

Yeah. Steve is often held up here as the example of a successful runner that moved on to be very successful in a completely non-running related field.
John Trautman is someone with a Georgetown connection that is currently coaching.
I think she’s would’ve been let go in the coming year.
She is not a good coach. Very incompetent. Many of her athletes are happy to see her go.
Hopefully they find someone who will build the program up again after she tarnished it for four years
Back to her alma mater? They have an opening and could use all the help they can get....
Perhaps she knows that Georgetown will be pulling funding for XC and Track? Or maybe a back story of culture? I'm sure it will all come out soon either from her or the school as this was very sudden.
Georgetown has like 40 percent legacies. So you're just going to see a big schism probably between those who got in because of parents and those who legit got in.
Also, MUCH easier to get in as a transfer.
Exactly!

Interesting that Holman went to Penn for his MBA and not Georgetown... says enough about Georgetown not being an Ivy elite school.

I believe that Steve was already living and working in the Philadelphia area at Vanguard and did his MBA at Penn in their Executive Program (every other Fri/Sat for 2 years).
Vanguard has a long history of runners in senior/leadership positions. And supporting those folks in Executive MBA programs. Given Vanguard's location and proximity to Penn, it would make sense to do your MBA there vs. somewhere else.
