I have to laugh at this. Frank Shorter peaked almost 35 years ago and he still has you by the balls. Did he dump your Mom or something?
Frank never lost a race. A few times guys that were drugged or cheated in some fashion finished in front of him. I know this because Frank has told us all. I also have great respect for a man that can dump his wife and start f***ing someone 30 years his younger. Am I jealous? Hell Yes. He is a living breathing representative of the type of folks that Boulder produces.
While reading the press release regarding the cross trials being located in Boulder, I nearly spit out my coffee. Pete Julian a very nice and well meaning man referred to Boulder as "the running mecca".
Mark Wetmore does a terrific job at University of Colorado, but Boulder has not been the "running mecca" in nearly 20 years. California had 2 Olympic medals in the marathon and the middle distance runners in Palo Alto would kick Boulders ass nearly every year. Hell the Hansons are doing a better job in the snow in Michigan than Boulder is. Those crazy kids in Boulder I think believe that B.S. that is being spewed by Pete.
Take a look at Boulder in the Marathon this year.

Chill out dude. Who cares what Peter Julian said in some off hand comment in some random article. Don't get your panties in a wad.
When did the phrase "jump the shark" jump the shark?

'bout a year ago.
About the same time as Starbucks jumped the shark. About the same time as your average high schooler realized that PRE was never a role model. About the same time as Lance Armstrong had clean blood. The list is endless. At 30 years old, Boulder was never the mecca during my running days. Although kids that are under 20 or guys that are over 40 believe that it is. The only people in the 21-40 year old age group that believe that Boulder is a running mecca are the guys that are searching for something from outside of themselves, when they should be searching within themselves.
Hard to believe that so many are so opinionated about something so trivial.
Good job. Very accurate. What about magnets for wristbands? Bee Pollen? DMSO?
what does jump the shark mean?
I moved from a good running situation out to Boulder in search of the Holy Grail. I had what I thought was a great job set up and an affordable place to live. It was a disaster. Probably just me. I am happy back home in Chicago.
Actually the phrase officially Jumped the Shark when it was brought up on the Happy Days Reunion show. I'm not sure the exact date that this show aired, but I believe it was early 2005.

Boulder has always been overated. This event will be a disaster, but the folks from Boulder will tell you that it is the greatest thing since sliced cheese. They will probably run the meet on some pancake flat course and then try to convince all of us that is a good thing. There will be a couple hundred spectators (the same as every other host city) and they will tell you that there was a couple thousand. Boulder is very good at embellishing things.
Yes, absolutely agree, Boulder really have only mythological benefit. Stay where you are and urge everyone who ask about Boulder and Colorado to do same, especially if just another everyday male 15:00+ 5K runner with delusion of grandeur.
Who cares? The team will finish 9th at the Worlds anyway.

It is usually some guy that is running 120 miles a week and thinks that he is doing everything it takes to be World Class. He thinks that altitude will be just what he needs to put him on the map. Instead just stay wherever you are and run 160 miles a week. I never realized until the OVERATED GUY put the lists up how few americans are having any success in the marathon that are living in Colorado. The list is shameful.
