Some good lists there representing many genres. Sammy Davis seems to have the most overall mentions which is good. But seriously..... NO punk represented? It's not just a Brit thing. There were some great influential American punk musicians. A punk Mt Rushmore could include:
Joey Ramone
Jello Biafra
Henry Rollins
Mike Muir
And then there's Funk, a very American genre:
Bootsie Collins
Marcus Miller
Stanley Clarke
George Clinton
Yeah, I think we need a mountain range!!
I meant Miles Davis not Sammy. It's 4am here :)
H.R.
Elvis
Prince
Bob Dylan
Man, this is a really tough one.
Guthrie
Prine
Simone
Gaye
Robert Johnson
Prince
Nat King Cole (most people don't realize how great of a piano player he was)
Aretha Franklin
Honorable mention to Vanilla Ice.

For a minute there I was genuinely delighted that somehow, for someone, Sammy Davis Jr is on their Mt Rushmore of American music. I would want to know that person.
Chuck Berry
George Gershwin
Brian Wilson
Loretta Lynn (or Dolly Parton)

Can't argue with your choices but what about other genres such as ragtime, Show tunes and standards from the great American songbook?

I don't know enough about those genres to have an opinion worth anything.
Devo. Entire band with energy domes.

Guy Clark
Bob Dylan

Leonard Cohen was Canadian. Sarah McLachlan is Canadian. Joni Mitchell is Canadian. Neil Young was born Canadian and most of his stuff was recorded before he became a US citizen.
Perhaps Linda Ronstadt should be considered because of her range in styles... pop, country, rock, big band, Latino, gospel (with Trio) , jazz...
Yeah and Canada is part of the Americas too.

Personally I put BB King and John Lee Hooker ahead of them.
My four would include Dylan, Johnny Cash, Miles Davis and Aretha.
I'd go with Muddy Waters, Jimmi Hendrix, Elvis, and MIles Davis.
Can't say that it is anything i find remotely interesting to me, but hey, credit where credit is due, and all that....
I can't believe Brian Wilson is getting so much love. Sure, the Beach Boys had some catchy, fun music, but it was not remarkable in any way.
When Tom Petty died so many note-worthy musicians covered his songs and/or made mention of his weight and influence.
