The fact that you so nonchalantly mention that those kids pay a quarter of a million dollars for that undergrad degree, and seem to find that acceptable, is mind blowing. Our university system has become so distorted and poisoned that far too many shrug when one notes the incredibly high prices paid by students. How is it possible that we have grown to accept this? Don't even get me started on our broken sick care non-system. It's as much a travesty. Burn the whole thing to the effing ground.

This. Preach.
Galloway did not even mention a factor in declining enrollments unrelated to the pandemic. Lower birth rates. The feeder pipeline of 17 to 24 year olds is dwindling with each passing year. There's no way for goofy places like "Green Mountain College" to survive.

There is no reduction in teachers with virtual education. A teacher's workload is determined by the number of students they have to teach and grade. Pile on more students and the individual students gets less learning support.
No way. Let's say your city has 10 High Schools, a virtual Spanish teacher can instruct to every Spanish student in the district at every school at one time.
Test can be graded by, AI, machine or by low cost employees. The idea that virtual teaching would mean keeping the same number of teachers is asinine.
It's 2020 and a teacher from 1920 would be able to step feel quite comfortable. Time to modernize education.
Also as noted by the video, education is bloated and FAT and it's time for it get lean.

Apples and oranges comparison, but yeah... I don't want bloat in the military any more than I want it in any government service.

University costs have gone way up. The main culprits as I see it are:
1) administration (there have been enormous increases in expensive personnel, deans and deanlets, each of which comes with a secretary who often has a salary in the range of assistant professor to professor! and they have to have projects to keep them busy, in addition to making bureaucratic work for all the profs and dep't chairs).
2) student support services (a very large group where employees exceed the # of professors!)
3) student facilities, lazy rivers, climbing walls, rec centers, and on and on
4) Information Technology (their budget has taken a rapidly increasing share of the total budget over the past fifteen years)
Capital projects also eat up a ton. Those new buildings cost a fortune.

Burn the whole thing to the effing ground.

Hey Steve Martin, how about he11 no? I'm a good American who wants better for my fellow citizens. You got a problem with that? Tough. And yes, burn the entire university system to the ground and start over. It would be nice if the thing that emerges actually serves students and this great country. Apparently you don't agree, which makes you part of the problem.

You are bitter. Did you not attend college - or attend, but major in communications?

And there it is, the Professor showing his true colors. Snide and aggressive remark. If you see what has become of this great country and aren't bitter, you aren't paying attention. Pay better attention please, and I'll tell you again, directly, that it is a GD travesty that your university is charging kids a quarter of a million dollars for an undergrad degree. It should trouble you greatly that that is the case.
