Thanks for feedback everyone. didn't think I would get this much interest to be honest lol!
I think Matt is going to join the local track club and do some off season cross country type training. I showed him this message board to check out as well.
To address a couple of the questions:
"Is there a video? I'd love this to be true, but this is the internet..."
- nah we didn't video it - there seem to be a lot of nice people on this website but also a lot of harsh critics so didn't want to get insulted or something if people know where we're running, who we are etc.
"I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that he ran 11.5 laps but thought he ran 12.5."
- nah, my coach and assistant coach were counting down the laps for everyone. He definitely ran 12.5
"Does the guy like running? He could be a one in a billion talent, but if he'd rather play soccer than run races, there is no sense trying to get him to switch sports, unless he's motivated by the allure of success and isn't already a soccer super star."
- he likes running and soccer but his passion is mountaineering. I told him running probably wouldn't interfere with that.
"100% troll. There's a few tells but the biggest giveaway is the OP pretending not to know anything about distance running."
- i don't know anything about distance running - how does that make me a troll?
"Yes, add to it the screen name and the fact that the football friend who ran a fast time also knows that the elites run 12/13 minutes."
- after he killed us in that race we looked up "5000m world record" and found out fast times
"Anonymous MB with no registered name, no app to support time. Do yourself, friend, and running virtually a favor post the results on Strava, YT, etc. Have a lap counter."
- yeah I just don't want to post under my real name and get insulted/shot down - it's already happening under an anon name! What's Strava? It looks like a biking GPS App? Like a lap counter for shoes or a person counting laps? Both our coaches were counting laps
"Just did a 5K time trial"....then a few hours later does a mile time trial. At least wait a day or two......"
- 5k was 3 days ago. I guess "just" meant recently this week. So 3 days in between so we were super well rested for todays workout
