what's the likelihood MCM gets cancelled?

This is a joke, right?
At least they are doing the right thing and offering a refund. Every race should offer a 100% refund if it is cancelled.
Might as well run the Marathons first before the end of the world

Saw this coming. My question now is when will we see our next major US marathon? I wonder if Houston or Disney (January) will be able to go?
Jarmans Invitational Marathon on August 1st is still a go.
That is quite the race description.

Well, to their credit, they reduced the field to 10,000 and are implementing all sorts of protocols to make it safer, including masks at the start/finish, only 6 hours to finish instead of 8, limited expo/post race party, etc.
The next few weeks will be huge as organizers are meeting with the mayor and seeing if it can still happen.
Obviously it's a long shot, but at least they're trying...

8 hours for a marathon is a joke. But we’ll save that for another day. Jeez. Who wants to be walking a city a for 8 hours? What a waste of a day.
About time, there was no way Lori was going to let this happen.
Chicago made me angry because of their communications before this one. They recently offered deferment options but you would have to pay for registration again for next year. I waited because I thought they would have to follow suit with the other majors but I wonder how many people spent another $200+ & if they'll be refunded.
That seemed like a calculated move to cash in on whoever deferred up front.
Actually those who already deferred will receive the same options as everyone else
Is CIM the last fast marathon left on the books? I mean its not chicago level but for the letsrun folks who are 2:20-2:50 marathoners its pretty deep in that 30 minute range.
No, but it may be a matter of time before all the others are canceled too.

That's the People's Marathon for ya. Or as I like to call it, the Hobby Jogger's Marathon. MCM is notorious for rookie runners.
This year might end up changing the culture of the race (if it does happen), which could be pretty awesome.

Nah, everyone is getting refunds.
This isn't Grandma's Marathon. Chicago is actually a legitimate organization that doesn't rip people off.
They have event insurance which covers cancellation.. Why wouldn't they pay the $75,000 deductible and refund everyone?

San Francisco has moved to Nov. 15th. A tougher course, but if the elites that planned to run New York, Boston, and Chicago are looking for a place to run, it is another race.
Perhaps any race can just setup a requirement for people to qualify under 4 hours or so to reduce the size of the field.

How about a race where everyone runs the same course, but starts at a different time. For example, you could line people up like they were waiting for a Southwest flight with the fastest people first based on their time in a previous marathon. At the start, the fastest seeded individual would go first, and then after a 5 second break, the 2nd fastest would go, and then each consecutive runner would go every 5 seconds. So about 12 runners would start each minute, where it would take about 83.33 minutes to get 1000 people across the line.
If the above was one in 50 different cities on the same day, the results could be combined, and you could have an overall winner from a 50,000 participant race.
just got emails that Philadelphia marathon is cancelled
and Brooklyn marathon is cancelled
really running out of options here
lmao, you’d get shot
